Have just come back into ST1100 ownership after a few years break and am looking for somebody to fettle my bike (well, for the more complex jobs!) in the north east of England. I'm near Darlington. Has anybody got any recommendations or anybody that they use around here? Realistically, prepared to travel a bit!

Cheers,

Marc

Welcome back to the forum.
Hope you receive a good recommendation for a local mechanic.
Very nice looking ST and with that mileage it's like new.

Two Owners and only 5K miles ? I can't imagine why anyone (or anytwo) would want to part with such a beautiful beast without having ridden it much.

Perhaps like me at first glance, they thought it didn't have any spokes in the front wheel ?
Hi John,

The previous owner for the last 16 years bought it and kept it as part of a collection of 26 bikes he had (?!) which was kept in a large garage. It was virtually never ridden in his ownership and never in the wet. When he bought it, it was wax-oiled all over after the swinging arm had been taken off and hamerited for extra protection. It is literally like a new bike even to the extent that the tings that you would expect to perish, haven't. I've had to do the fork seals as one started leaking after i bought it and I changed out the steering head bearings for tapered bearings too whilst the front was stripped. Even though the tyres had only done about 300 miles, I replaced them too as they were fitted in 2013 (!!) and they did show some minute signs of cracking on the sidewalls.

I've changed all the fluids myself but I'm looking for somebody who knows these to do a brake flush/change (the ABS system is a lot more complex than my previous beemers!)

Any recommendations on who to use up here?

Wow, what a superb looking moto.

Rather than using a dealer - may I suggest you do the work yourself, and rely on the tremendous knowledge base we have accumulated here in the forum (and the ever-willing assistance of fellow owners to advise if you have questions)? It's fun to maintain the machine yourself, you will know the work is done right, and the cost will be significantly less than having it serviced at a dealership, even after allowing for the expense of purchasing tools.

Here's a link that will introduce you to our ST 1100 knowledge base: ST 1100 Tech Also a link to some excellent articles that explain certain topics in detail: ST 1100 Articles.

I would give Richie a ring at Hartlepool Motorcycles. He's a one man band but Honda trained. He'll let you know if he can do it or not. He will generally do jobs whilst you wait. Just don't call him short.

Sorry @decompressing - I was that busy drooling over the photo, I didn't answer your question - but no - sorry, I don't know any one in your part of the country, but I see Upt'North has suggested someone. You don't need a Honda dealer in particular, you need someone who knows the Pans.

Odd though - yesterday, I took advantage of the good weather and the dry roads and got out for a good long ride. 244 miles through the dales and up the Upper Tees Valley and Over to Alston, Hartside, Shap, Sedbergh, Hawes, Ribblehead and back home. Great stuff. Just before Ribblehead, the sun was disappearing behind the mountains and I pulled off at the side of the road to add some extra layers.

While I was doing that, a chap came past on a shiny new looking GSX (I think it was). He stopped to check whether or not I had broken down and needed help, which was nice of him. We chatted for a while, and he had bought this brand new looking bike from a chap who had his own private collection. He reckoned he had about 26 bikes and this was one pristine. It was P registered - which is about 92 ?. The chap on the GSX came from Teesdale.

Who is this chap selling off brand new old motorbikes? He's making the motorcycling population around there very happy, and those of us who have missed out are turning a pale shade of green.

Just one tip - before you get that beast on the UK roads, take out the two wheel sensors if they will remove without using any force - one on the front wheel and one on the back. Smear some grease on the outer casing (not on the circular flat bottom) and reinstall them. They are a close fit in the alloy bracket and can corrode in place. If they are already tight, leave well alone.

Yeah, I bought the bike from a small specialist dealer just south of Hull, so the guy who owned it previously lives in that general area. He was apparently into his 70's and finding the upkeep etc of all the bikes (and a few cars too!) too much so had decided to start selling them off.....

Must have been a full-time job just being the fleet manager for that lot!!
