Helmets Helmet Quandary

A cheaper helmet may protect your head as well as a more expensive one. The more expensive ones will most likely be lighter, fit better and be more comfortable.
Motorcycle closeouts had a couple of 2004 KBC helmets on sale for under $200.0.
I`m thinking of buying one. I`m concerned w/the fit thou. I`ve never tried one on.
Anybody out there own a KBC Vision or VR-1?
 
I have the Exo-700... made of fiberglass/kevlar mix. I love this helmet! The fit is perfect... nice and snug... not overly noisey like my Symax or CL-Max. Very cool and comfortable... DOT/Snell approved too. :)
 
Personally I took a lot of that aritcle as trying to sound impressive.

The did tout their 300G spec stating that DOT allows 400G. They seemed to gloss over the 400G specifics. They also mentioned 250G in relation to the DOT spec. I have no idea what that is in reference to.

This is what the FMVSS 218 spec says.

A. IMPACT ATTENUATION ? When an impact attenuation test is conducted in accordance with S7.1, all of the following requirements shall be met:
(1) Peak accelerations shall not exceed 400g
(2) Accelerations in excess of 200g shall not exceed a cumulative duration of 2.0 milliseconds (msec)
(3) Accelerations in excess of 150g shall not exceed a cumulative duration of 4.0 milliseconds (msec)

I am not sure I buy the argument that a given G limit is safe and anything less than that is not any safer. "safe" is not an absolute term. One can a a severe injury in a 20G impact. ***** happens. It is all about percentages. It seems to reason that survival percentages go up as G impact size goes down.

Of course all the impact this and impact that says nothing about rotational brain injuries. Your helment does nothing to protect against this. Rersearch needs to be done to see if anything can be done to help that aspect.
