‘24 Can Am Spyder RT
Been lurking in the background for a few months and have learned more than I could have imagined and become a farkle junky with a limited budget. Bought an '03 in July and absolutely love it. Have pretty much decided on a Scorpion helmet as my next purchase but to try one on is too far to travel. I have tried on Arai, Icon, and KBC for all of which a large fits great but the HJC would be a medium. Based on this info. would anyone know what size Scorpion would be best? Thanks!!

Unlike most things, one should try-on a helmet to see how well it fits, as fit is one of the most important factors needed to be known. If your jacket fits loosely or too tightly -- no big deal. If your helmet fits too loosely it could limit its protection of your head. Too tight and you won't even want to wear it. Equally important is the shape of the head the maker designed for. Arais fit wide heads, Shoei fit narrow ones, for example. Scorpion? Don't know. I can tell you that Maker "A"'s hemet size X is not the same as Maker "B"'s.

I know that this is not much help but see if you can try before you buy.

I own HJC Symax and CL-Max as well as a Scorpion EX-700... they fit the same for me. YHMV ;)

I have a Caberg too :D I don't own a Shoei... an Arai... got the new ICON catalog... they have a new helmet that looks sweet :eek: Hi, my name is Robert... I'm a helmet-a-holic :o:
 
Buying a Helmet

This is one of the most important decisions a rider has to make apart from what STeed you purchase.

You must think of that different makes of helmet will have different consequences. A new Arai to you may be noisy, uncomfortable and the new Shoei may be totally different.

To choose the correct helmet, you should first look at what you want, is it a full face, flip top or open face. You should then read all of the information you can gather and take into consideration all of the replies.

Do you want to fit a rider intercomm system where the earphones fit in the recess of the helmet if there is one! All should be taken into consideration.

I would never recommend a helmet to anyone, I would just inform the person asking my findings in the one that I am using.

If someone is wanting to purchase a helmet, read all you can about it, take your pick and go try them on. However, if the helmet you are looking at, pinches above your forehead, go look for another one or the next size up. If it pinches above the forehead, that part will not give, and after 15 mins of wearing it, you will no doubt have violent headaches.

Beware of the purchase, it really is a personnal choice, my $.02 worth

I have a vote against the HJC Symax -- for me, it is too noisey when in the closed position --
 
I wear a Large Shoei RF-1000. When I bought a Scorpion EX-700 last year, I found that they ran about the same. At first I thought it was a bit small, but the cheek pads soon conform to your face and it fits fine now.

I can supply the gloves. I've been described as the Imelda Marcos of gloves... :p

I just can't help myself - every time I go into a cycle shop, I have to get gloves...
 
I use a Shoei RF-1000. I like it. And I like my new pinlock visor for it too. It just works for a fogfree riding experience, at least for me, with a breath guard and a chin curtain.

I put 40k miles on my HJC SY-Max, But, Really Love my new Nolan N102. MUCH less air noise. Anti fog shield. Flip down shade... Just love it.

Helmet Harbor had the best deal, free shipping.
 
I just purchased the EXO 700 for Christmas. Have only had one day to wear it. My previous helmet was a SHOEI XL RF800. I took an XXL in the Scorpion. We have a local dealer that carries Scorpions so I was able to try both the XL and the XXL. The XL was too tight.

For me the helmet shape appears to be similar. I didn't have any "tight" spots with the Shoei and I don't appear to have any with the Scorpion. (However my only ride with the Scorpion was only 180 miles - 90 miles, eat, return home.) The anti-fog faceshield really works. Couldn't fog it up even when trying.

Any space for speakers / microphone with an Autocom system?
 
I wear a Medium in the HJC and have the Scorpion EXO700 in Medium as well.

Before you order one online, make sure they have some kind of a return policy. For me, the Scorpion fits perfectly, no pressure points, but Shoei's never fit right, not to the shape of my head. Just my two cents.
 
I am just starting the helmet search process. I want a full face with internal sunshield, that is Rx glasses friendly. Additionally, I want to get XM, GPS audio and cell phone comms ability. I do not need a passenger intercom.

Will the Nolan N-Com work, or is there anything else out there? Thanks.
