 I had no idea these instructions were THIS bad!!

"Top Case Part" 3 - Insert the seal in its seat (pict.C) I can't see where it is supposed to go, for sure -- does it need to be glued in place?

also -- 4 - Using a hammer and a suitable spanner, remove the premarked plastic part where the contacts have to be placed (pict.D) I am assuming that it is the spot to the right of center, but before I give it a whack, I'd like that verified!!

I'm sure I'll have more questions later...

Thanks,

Ok, Jim put down the hammer and slowly back away from the Givi.

You are experiencing the same sort of install issues I had.

Let's start from the beggining. Where are you at on this one?

The seal seat is a small groove around the outside of the inlet's where the brake lights go in and it is a PITA to get that seal to stay in there. I found that pulling just a little bit on the rubber seal to make the seal a little narrower would then allow it to go into the groove and when you let up on the seal it would go back to it's original diameter and then sort of hold itself in the groove. I hope that makes sense. I may be able to get you some pics of mine if I get a little time today to take off the reflectors on mine.

On the hole in the case I actually used a utility knife and cut mine out but others have said that they knocked their's out. Did you already knock out the hole in the mounting plate?

Crazy -- No I haven't. I managed to cut my thumb :( cutting out the holes for the lights, so I slowed down a bunch.
Is the groove for the seals on the outside of the openings, sort of under the white sticky? I just haven't even spotted what I'd call a groove...

Oh, well -- I'll get it done sooner or later...

Yes, when you cut out the white sticky it is just outside of that. If you run you finger around the outside of the hole you cut out you should feel it there.

I remember cutting those out. What a pain that was!

Slightly off-topic, but not entirely: consider not using the supplied, spring loaded contacts system for brake light connection between the box and the mounting plate. The only reason I say that is because I've had my E52 for over a year now and the contacts on the mounting plate side of the setup were very worn down and my top box brake light would flicker when ever I hit a bump while the brakes were applied. I recently replaced that configuration with a simple 2-conductor SAE plug (those male/female plugs similar to trailer hitch plugs). The 2-pronger is small enough to slide through the hole in the mounting plate. Of course, the only downside is that you have to unplug your top box before removing it. This wasn't a problem for me because I only take mine off for maintenance purposes anyway.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip. I hope mine lasts longer but it probably won't.

GIVI V46 Brake Light Install

I recently purchased a Givi V46 top box off eBay. The box came with the brake light already installed but no directions about hooking up to the bike's wiring to get it to work. Does anyone know of any diagrams, instructions, or anything else that would help? Would my honda dealer be able to do this easily enough for me?

Thanks,
Bob

Great Farkle while you're at it.

There is a great farkle for the Givi E52 light kit. It replaces the small bulbs they provide with very bright LED's and they look outstanding - much brighter than the bulbs. I used that, along with the Comagination versaflasher http://www.comagination.com/modulator.htm for brakes and it's a great combo. Finally I replaced the white reflective material with one of the highly reflective marine tapes. The PDF for the LED mod should be attached.

Good luck with the Givi - they're worth it when you're done.

relliot499 , the case is wired and ready, right ? Is there the connector on the bottom of the case ? There should be a matching receptor with two leads, that needs to be attached to the plate. Do you have that ? If not you can purchase it separate from GIVI. One of the two wires needs to be hooked to the positive wire of the stop light and the other to the negative. It doesn't really matter which wire goes where.... Just make sure you find the brake light wire on your taillight, not the running light....

Cheers,
