Highway Blades - Full Kits! 1100/1300/1300P

Hi Dylan, I am genuinely interested in this type of highway blade for my ST1300 (2009), but I am a bit concerned that cutting the plastic cover might not be an easy task. Could you provide any kind of guidance or instructions on how to do it properly? Do you have any experiences? This is an important question for me, and I would like to be sure before placing an order. At 55, my knee is really asking for this footrest. :-) Thanks: Levente

The highway blades mount up nicely and are a welcome addition on the longer rides. The covers are on my "to do" list, but there is now an article with a printable template for it:

Hope that helps!

Sounds like with a template, patient use of a Dremel tool or similar, would suffice.
Anything you do to those plastic covers will be, by definition, a "Custom" job.
I likewise am usually filled with fear, trepidation and loathing at the thought of cutting into the factory plastics.
Nonetheless, I drilled a hole (using a step bit) near my fairing pocket to install a USB charger. It came out perfect, but boy I was nervous.
Measure twice (or 3 or 4 times, as necessary) and cut ONCE. The template should help; start small and you can expand it as necessary.
Much like getting a haircut... you can always cut hair shorter, but... you can never cut it longer.

Dylan hasn't logged into this site since October of last year. When I bought my blades from him last year I was able to contact him through his website listed on the 1st post of this thread. There is a template posted for cutting the cover, I used it and it was successful process.
