DeanR and I are trying to remove the swing arm of my perished Hardley ST1100 Davidson, to get at the alternator.

Neither side of the swing arm pivot will loosen, not the side that takes a 17mm allen, nor the side that needs the "swing arm tool" that DeanR borrowed from Karen (thanks Karen).

Any ideas? Bigger hammer?

Battery side has the 'locking ring'.
If you can't move it with the special tool I'd use a drift/punch and a big hammer.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I just tried the heat and tapping and will turn it again. It is hard to get leverage, the little teeth of the special tool keep popping out of the ring/nut.

It worked! PB blaster, cutting out a notch of the frame so the screw driver would hit the ring at the perfect tangent, then heat and smacking the screw driver hard. It got the thing loose.
