Honda Topbox (little black plastic screw cover) lost

SilverBullet

Does anyone know how to go about finding a replacment for the little black plastic screw cover (Item #3 on the parts list sheet). Like my motto says....If you don't listen you got to feel. Well one of mine is gone now. I emailed davidsiverspears to see what they can do.

Has anyone been able to find one or have one laying around?

UPDATE: Just to give everyone a heads up, I ordered the caps from David Silver Spares and received 4 of them yesterday. 3 of them for backups...just in case. Just send them an e-mail and they will give you a quote number that you can complete the purchase on line.

If your just installing the case put a dab of black silicone under the cap.

Like the air deflectors, to obtain replacement parts, you have to buy the whole thing.

Maybe from a junkyard if they have a crashed 1300 there with a broken top box...:(

I got a answer from David Silver Spares today and included it below. I sent them another email to see if I can get a part number to order online or if I got to call it in. I'll update when I hear back. I think they only answer 1 email a day..LOL

Just a little dab of silicone will hold them in place forever. If you ever need to remove them, run a blade between the two pieces and you’re done.

I lost one of those caps before applying a dab of silicone to each one.

I ordered replacements from either cruiserbackrest.com or cbxman.com. It's been so long now that I just don't remember which.

Or, use a pocket screwdriver to "pop" them out.

Use black silicone and, you will not even notice if any should manage to ooze out.

I think I still have one on my mounting plate, all the rest are gone. LOL, wonder if I should give it to you?

I also lost two of mine, just can't go slow enough to keep them in place. I think I'll order the new ones and apply with silicone.

I believe they are talking about the caps that come with the Honda line top box mounting platform that bolts to the stock ST rack. They just fall in the hole with no snap or anything holding them and are just there to make the platform look nice when the top box isn't on the bike. I lost one in the shipping and started off with -1. I may have to order one also. How much to ship a $2.00 part across the pond?

I too have been a victim of the lost cap. I tried putting a clear vinyl tape over them but apparently an edge came loose and away went the cap. I now had the task of trying to find a way to disguise the missing cap, yea right. Well I think I came up with a solution (see photo).

I still had some step tape laying around from the frame protectors I made. I made a template that was 1/4" larger than the caps and cut out six pieces. I trimmed the front 2 to fit the recess and simply put the cut piece on the lower step to help keep it on. The glue on the step tape is much better than the vinyl tape I tried before but can still be peeled off if necessary

Now you're thinking that one of them has a void under the tape that can be punched through if something pokes it. Wrong! I cut down the twist cap from a plastic soft drink bottle and put in over the nut in place of the missing cap.

If anyone finds the two I lost, please let me know. I hate it when my bike isn't perfect!

That's a pretty neat trick Byron, but wouldn't it have been better if you had used reflective tape.... you know for safety purposes?

You never know when a helicopter might try to land on top of you!
