Hi folks - I appreciate any help you can give me with rebuilding my calipers. After putting new brake pads on my 1995 ST1100 (non abs) of course the pads were sticking. So I put new in caliper seals, cleaned it up and put it all back together. Alas they were not sticking. They were making noise when applying. So I took them apart again and the pad guide on the top of the left (fixed sliding caliper) just fell out. I think this may have been loose creating the noise initially?

Anyway - How do you put this back in? Does it snap in similar to the pad spring? I futzed with it for an hour and can't figure it out? Please help!

Hello Glen,

It always helps to use the noun-nomenclature used in the Service Manual so we've got a common frame of reference to identify parts (or a picture), but I think you're referring to the Pad Retainer that fits into the Caliper Bracket, instead of the larger Pad Spring that fits to the Caliper Assembly.

Yes, it should clip in. Here's some pictures that should help (front and rear albums):

The Honda Service Manual schematic does show the proper parts orientation for the brake caliper parts. HTH
