How did you manage the now raised plastic cowling or did you get rid of that? That's call the 'flip-clip' mod and I've been running that for 450,000+ miles between 4 ST1100s.
My hair has not turned purple and I have not died in a fiery crash from it yet ...![]()
Any pics?I kept the cowling on all 4 ST1100 'runners'.
I originally made some brackets but determined the cowling wasn't going anywhere without them.
I did add a bit of plastic pipe around the ignition switch to make it easier to insert the key.
Some folks make 'extended' keys but I've never had the need to do it.
youre a good one Phil. Thanks a lotHere's a link to the article -

Here's the setup I came up with. Mine actually still looks stock. 1. You will need to replace the 4 M8 X 35 stock bolts through the clamps with four M8 X 60's, 4 10mm nuts to use as spacers, and two ST top clamps from Honda (The 1996 and up part number should be 53131-HB6-000, the 1995 and...www.st-owners.com

I installed 1" risers on mine two years back next month. I had to enlarge the hole for the ignition key and trim the sides of the key. Any taller and I could not have used the cover without cutting an ugly notch in the front of it as it also moves back, not just up, when you install a straight riser. The stock retention clip at the front of the cover no longer fit, so I made a longer one from a coat hangar, metal nut plate and really short machine screw. I removed the hose clamps on the handle bar and forks, then replaced with new ones once I was sure the hoses would not pull/bind.How did you manage the now raised plastic cowling or did you get rid of that?
I wasn't sure that would work so I raided my closet. I had wondered if my new design would work. But...no wind buffeting, certainly no vibration on the cover so it's still where I put it.I just flipped that wire upside down and it seem to work fine.
