J & M Audio system

Sink

I havn't seen anything about the J & M audio system on here. Anybody tried this? It sounds like it would be a great match to the Delphi XM2go. CB weather band radio and intercom all in one plus the music from satalite radio. I sure would like to hear some feedback.

I had the J&M CB and it worked very well. I think some people have had some reception/transmission problems but then they went away.

I sold mind because I didn't like that it blocked the view of the left side mirror, for me anyway. I went with a handheld and even though it's a few extra wires and hassle to hook/unhook, it is a cheap option.

If the placement of the J&M had been a little different, I probably would have kept it.

At the time I was considering bending the bracket or making a new one but then the push to talk lever would be re-positioned and I just didn't see how to make it work and look right. But, I'm no genius so I'm sure someone else will come up with something better.

Here's a link I just saw on the msn board that might save you a few $$$ if there is a problem:

I have the unit and agree that it does block the left-hand mirror somewhat, but not completely. The intercomm and CB quality is very good, as it should be for the price. I bought it primarily for the high-quality intercomm and have not been disappointed. I've used an MP3 player with it, but you are severely limited by the quality of the speakers in the helmet. There is simply no low-end (bass) response in most speakers as they are designed to give clear voice reproduction. I also prefer to ride with earplugs, so it's tough to listen to music. The CB and Intercomm can be heard through earplugs, but my wife doesn't like wearing plugs so volume selection is a bit of a problem.
The weather function is great, but you won't use it that often. You can tell when it's raining without too much help.

J & M Troubles

I have the J&M and had to return my original unit right after purchase January '04 back to Sierra for replacement. It would cut out transmission when fully modulated (voice). The next unit lasted until this winter when I noticed it did not seem to be transmitting even though it showed so on face (no one responded back). I checked with SWR/Output meter and found it was not transmitting. I sent it back to Sierra who then as requested by J&M had to send it to J&M for repair. The turn around was about 3 weeks for this to occur and Sierra did a responsible job. Unit is now back on bike and performing. I do use high end J&M head phones/mic and it gives good sound quality to radio/XM input. Really enjoyable to ride with and know CB and weather is just a touch away. I used at last years Hoot with some Goldwinger friends, and it worked very well according to them. I understand you can get a gadget that will multiply you inputs for things like radar, cell, etc. for about $120. That puts this unit way higher than others. Quality is good and compact for ST. Peter, there are other avenues to go for better low end response in the headsets. I chose to NOT buy the J&M headsets that are designed to go with the unit, and instead went with EdSets (much less expensive but better quality). In order to use the EdSet microphone you will need to ask the guy that makes them to also build you an adapter that will take the voltage off the mic from the J&M unit. The headsets have a very high quality sound. I also know of other folks that have even taken the next step.... clipping off the headphones from the existing unit and soldering in a set of very high quality Koss headphones or earbuds. I've even heard of folks using those noise cancelling music headphones.

If you'd like to learn a little more about the EdSets, you can see his stuff at http://www.bluzplayer.biz/ . I have no affiliation with EdSets other than being happy with a couple of sets I own and impressed with the customer service. (I had a problem with a dongle well after the warranty expired... he said "It shouldn't have happened anyway" and fixed it for free.)
