Short of time. Quick photos. I'll come back and explain later.
GPS is mounted under the grey dash under the screen. It does not work well right next to the ECU.
Units are mounted on board with sticky pads and with wires cable tied, so that cables and unit cannot vibrate at different rates. Also mounted in plastic bags - not shown.
Power is permanent - but there is a white 2-pole connector under the seat - blue taped - which I also use for battery charger. I disconnect it when parked when away ****.
The board is just 3mm hardboard - something to drill and to affix cables with ties. MY experience is that cables emerging from the plastic bodies of anything tend to break at the join. This prevents that from happening.
I normally put it in a plastic bag - open at one end.
This unit also mounted on board put on the right hand side of the rear cowl - here shown lifted out of position
And here in situ. The yellow screen cloth is for padding to stop it moving around. I also have the board in a plastic bag
Poor shot of the rear camera - an adjustable clip mount on to of the rear pannier. Not ideal, but under the top box cuts out most of the view.
I tested this on an old screen before I drilled into the present screen. It works well and raising, lowering the screen (surprisingly) makes very little difference to the image - it is suce a wide angle lens.
The GPS is mounted up and left a bit behind the grey cowl, behind the screen. Just stuck in place. I'll find a couple of videos later.
Mic is pretty poor. I have it either under the seat, or clipped into my helmet if I want a commentary. I have put a micro 2 pin connector in the lead so that I can detach the mic without going under the seat to undo the plastic screw in connector. If I forget to remove the mic from my helmet before I get off the bike, the connector just pulls apart.
**** Disconnecting the main power unit for the K3.
The unit employs an electronic switch which keeps the system alive for about 20 seconds after the ignition has been turned off. In theory.
This is pretty reliable, but it let me down badly once and over a period of about 20 hours, something drained the battery flat. I was stranded.
I watched the video that it had recorded. I was parked on a slope, in a public car parke where lots of people were wandering around, and I had parked the bike so that it was only just leant onto the side stand. An accidental brush on the left hand side, would have toppled it over. So I wanted to face the bike slightly more to the left, so that the left hand side was facing more downhill.
The video shows that I started the engine, moved the bike and turned the ignition off again. After that, no more recording.
I have a suspicion, which I have observed just once before. The recorder detects when the ignition has been turned off. It keeps power from the battery flowing until it has properly closed down the file that it was recording and committed it to the SD card. Then it shuts off the power feed to the recorder.
But when the ignition is turned on, it takes a while before the recorded starts up. And I reckon that I turned off the ignition before the unit had started up properly. And because of that, it didn't shut down properly - it has not yet started the routine that monitors the power input awaiting a shut down.
It's only a theory, and I am not totally convinced by my explanation. My bike battery was completely flat. Nothing else was plugged in. It charged up OK and maintained its charge for a few months after - but just in case it was the battery I replaced it before our next trip. I still have it and keep it charged in the garage as a spare. It still holds its charge pretty well. So I have no better explanation for what happened. I have left the K3 unit plugged in for weeks at a time in the garage and the bike battery has never gone flat, or even struggled to start - but if I need to turn on the ignition for some reason, I make sure I wait for the light on K3's small button console to indicate that it has started up, before I turn off the ignition.
But now when I am away from home, I lift the seat and break that 2 pin connector. Once bitten .....
