Greetings,

After a lot of reading on here about the different throttle locks, almost bought the TM's, then looked the Breakaway (takes up too much room on the bar for me, I use the whole bar with my hand) the cheaper alternatives are good too.
In the end, its a throttle lock, whatever you get that works for ya, is it.

I got a descent deal on eBay for a Kaoko throttle lock for the st1300 and that's what I installed.

Here is a pic of the Kaoko unit on the left, the stock hardware is on the right (including the weight retainer bar that fits inside the right grip)

The weight of the Kaoko unit is slightly less than the hardware that you are removing, I'm not sure how much difference as I have no scale that is accurate enough, but it is slightly lighter.

A pic of the bar-end weights by them selves:

And a few shots of the installed unit:

This throttle lock seems to work well, the big knob is easy to grip with your pinky finger while holding the throttle.
Once the tension is released, the throttle snaps back closed as it did stock.
Ofcourse the throttle can be closed manually, the friction is easily overcome.

I can't actually test ride the bike till spring

The Kaoko unit seems to be quite solid and a quality piece.
The bar-end looks quite stock and looks like it belongs on the bike, and takes up Zero room on the grip (something I was after) :p:

The install was quite easy, the toughest part was getting the internal bar out.

Ofcourse, there is always something.....
While working on the bike, I noticed coolant dripping onto the garage floor

Now I have to chase that down.

I tried to order one from Adventurers Workshop a while ago, but they are impossible to get anything from. After a very long wait and a few emails I had to cancel order. Is there any where else to get one?

I got my set via eBay.

But I talked to Advworkshop a while ago and they had some st1300 kaoko's in stock. Give em a buzz, if they have the stock, then might as well give it another go.

I have a Kaoko on my VStrom...I like it a bit better than my Throttlemeister on my ST because the Kaoko is easier to engage with gloved hands.

But also, the Kaoko knob *can* be too easy to turn IMO. So that little setscrew (seen in several of the above pictures) usually needs tightened down so that the big knob drags a bit more.

My grip heaters aren't on yet, but there's nothing on the Kaoko that will interfere with them. It just puts tension against the outboard edge of the throttle sleeve; shouldn't even touch the grips. BTW, +1 to everything Tazmool said. I got the stock bar weight assembly out with a pair of ViseGrips, a bolt, and a mallet. Didn't need to heat anything, or get violent.

Do you need to take the stock bar weight assembly out? Do you just take the old bar weight off and screw on the new assembly? It doesn't appear that the Kaoko comes with an inner assembly. :shrug2:

The old inner assembly, as shown in Tazmool's photos, is removed. The small end of the Kaoko (on top in the photos) goes inside the handlebar. It expands as you tighten an allen bolt (like most stock handlebar weights) to hold the unit on the handlebar. It really is as simple as it sounds. Pull the old unit out, stick the new one in, tighten the bolt, and set the "drag" on the little cog thingy (with the small set screw, which is visible in Taz's photos) and you're in business.
