G'Day...

-6°~-4°C (depending whom you ask), allegedly sunny, but not more then -2°C during the day...
at 75~67% RH biting your fingers and hands... 🥶
(cleaned rear-views and side windows of the trusty Toyota outside the office... which I hate doing under such conditions...)

home and office caffeine... :coffee:

traffic has picked up, more folks returned from their holiday/winter vacation where they'd forgotten how to drive...
my commute southbound still flowing, GF heading north sees a bit more congestion though...

Office the usual Monday morning confusion...
🎼 ... I got 8 little fingers but only two thumbs ... 🎸

Headlight assy for ze GF's NT arrived... unfortunately thrown around/dropped by the carrier/s... gonna need to epoxy that...
(her's is FUBAR and a write off...)

Morning all!

More snow overnight, but the Nor'Easter skirted us by about 100km so we didn't get the full brunt. -4C, with snow, headed to -1 and cloudy. I misjudged looking out the window this morning and didn't snow blow, which was not the correct answer I guess. I know what's in my future when I get home.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Obo.

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee start, Martin.

It's lightly snowing and 28, this morning. The snow will stop and the temperature shouldn't go above 29.

I shoveled about 2" of snow yesterday, and it looks like there's another 2" on the walkway. I might use the snowblower, next time.

Yesterday, we stayed inside, watching the winter wonderland build up outside our windows. I did the snow shoveling thing around midday, and eventually sat down to watch the Patriots/Houston wildcard game. Go, us! They got to play in the snowstorm, and fortunately, the Pat's QB managed to give up the ball a little less than Houston.

Today, I'll snowblow, head to the gym, and go pick up my new ski boots.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee, Martin. Keep those fingers and toes well bundled up!

It's a nippy 20°F in Rockville, but it's clear and bright as Mr. Sun emerges from his overnight game of hide-and-seek behind the planet. Sunny with a high of 39 is on tap. I can see that we've already clawed back about six minutes from the arrival of dawn, and added nearly a half hour of light before sunset, since the solstice almost a month ago. That's a positive trend.

The cleaning ladies are due this morning, so it's the usual pick-up-and-tidy routine to start, before we disappear into the home office (an area they don't enter, which gives us a place to go to be out of their way). If it were warmer I might consider trying to tidy up the workshop, but it'll be darn cold in there even with the space heater going at full tilt. I may start the heater anyhow, and work on the other half of the shop (within the foundation of the house, and therefore heated) while waiting for the ice to melt in the outer shop.

I've more-or-less worked out the conceptual, high-level design for the mobile tool storage cabinet. It's going to take additional material, over and above what scraps and leftovers have accumulated, but I'll inventory those first and see whether I might be able to use some or most them through creative joinery. That's a tactic and technique I used when constructing my main benchtop tool storage unit a few years ago. The back of that is composed of no fewer than 13 separate pieces of wood, stuck together to form a panel of suitable size.

Since part of the objective is to use up scraps and clear the clutter they create and space they consume, I'll do something similar for the mobile chest, before spending money on more material. It's (a lot) more work to do it that way but saves on material costs, and I have more free time than free money.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Thanks for the antifreeze Martin.
Woke to 24°, but it's *cough!* "warmed" to 27 now. Oh joy. Might be near 40 by the time I come home later this evening.
It snowed in the panhandle of Florida, but not in central Alabama. And that's a good thing. Ain't nobody (here) got time for that!
Days are getting slightly longer still, so I'm just looking for anything to be happy about.
I'm finding those things, hope y'all can find things to be happy about too.
Even if it's a pair of new ski boots.

Morning all! It's a clear sunny chilly day here. Currently 1C (-1C with the windchill ), which made for a bit of a chilly ride in to work, and a predicted high of 9C, which should be a little nicer for the ride home.

Flew back from Calgary yesterday after attending the Celebration of Life for a good friend on Friday. He was 57. Died of metastatic bowel cancer. Get scoped folks! Even if the prep is the sh.....crappy.

I best get to work and wade through the emails that accumulated in my absence.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Was it a new headlight assembly that you purchased? For no other reason than me being curious I ask- They broke it, why not send it back and have them send you a new replacement?
I couldn't care less whether the supplier or the shipper pays for the replacement, they can fight that out between themselves. I see no reason to pay for new parts and to have accept damaged parts.

The above reminds me of another question for a lawyer- Ted (@Weaselinsuit)

When on-line shopping started really taking off and it was all new for everyone and everyone was trying to figure out what the rules were, I heard a lawyer on the radio who stated that the law in Canada states that a parcel is not considered delivered until it is received by a physical person. He stated that companies who just drop parcels outside a door and leave are still responsible for those parcels, even if they get stolen, because as far as the law is concerned they are not considered to have been delivered yet. I have noticed that Canada Post won't do that. If you don't answer the door they leave a notice advising when they will attempt another delivery and after that where you can go to pick up the parcel, which would seem to be to comply with that law. Before delivery companies at least used to ring the bell so you would go to the door and see that there is a parcel. Now they don't even bother doing that, they just drop it on the step and leave and no one in the house knows that there is a parcel waiting outside in full view of everyone.

By any chance would you know if this law, if it exists as stated, has been changed to accommodate and facilitate all of these home deliveries?

It's been a while but my recollection is that they are responsible to get the package in your hands unless a different method of delivery has been specified. So if they have a different method in their terms and conditions, then they can just do a drop and run. I recall back in the day that I had to put up a sticker on my door for one of the courier companies saying they could drop it without a signature. I think the sticker had a bar code for the delivery person to scan so they had a record that I had agreed to a drop and run. It may differ from province to province however. I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to what the rule is in Quebec under the Code Civil.

@steve3b3 New ski boots! How exciting, although it's all downhill from there.
Hopefully!
The new ones are Apex brand.
They look like snowboard boots, and you step into the carrier. I'm looking forward to trying them out, sometime this week.
The shop fitted them to the skis, and adjusted the settings on the mounts.
When I picked everything up, the shop person said that the springs in the bindings are getting weak, so they might not pass inspection next year. I'm already planning on replacing these skis later in the season.

I have read about these new systems. I'll be curious to see how you find them and if you had to modify your technique at all. Very cool.
