Need help with rear adjustment

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but im trying to adjust my rear suspension. I can't seem to move the adjustment collar at all. Almost like it seems seized. I just want to move it from position 2 to 3 for when my wife comes for rides.

There is a good amount of force on that collar. Must, must have the tool from the factory tool kit. Make double sure it is seated then give it a good wack with a beadblow hammer. I'm sure it hasn't moved in a long time. Try some corrosion inhibitor or penetrate.
 
I would hesitate to use a lubricant. It will attract dirt, making it difficult to turn in the future. If I was inclined to use a lubricant I would use dry graphite spray. It leaves a black coating which you may find a little unsightly though. :twocents1:
 
I just wanted to add that there is a handle that slips over your spanner wrench. Makes it so much easier.

Short length of pipe slipped over the spanner handle will give you the leverage you need to turn it. Saves the knuckles too.
 
Thanks for all the tips. I'll give it a try again later on tonight. I am using the factory tool with the handle attachment. I'm just assuming it hasn't been moved in a while. I just recently purchased the bike and it has 67,000 kms on it. Also, could someone explain the difference between spring compression and damping adjustment?

With 67k km your shock probably has another 10-15k km until it needs to be replaced. Lots of replacement options. I used a Progressive 465 series and here is a URL to explain the suspension basics. If your bike bounces up and down after hitting a bump or after being pulled off the center stand quickly (pogo stick like) your damping is probably shot.

I think your spring adjustment might need to be a little higher than 3 two up, unless you've both been doing the Jane Fonda workout, it might be a little low:wt1:.
The dampener adjuster works a treat IMO and again for two up nearly fully in suits us.
It's all explained rather well in the Honda riders manual, if you have one and yes there is an extension for the adjusting wrench in the tool kit. Good luck.

Doesn't looks adjustable on this collar. If it's adjustable it should have a round pins on each side of those steps. But looks like you cab tight the nut just below the washer and spring.
 
If im on 4 then i will just leave it. This is the first bike ive owned where I've had trouble adjusting the rear spring. I will dial in the damper to proper adjustment and will replace the spring next year. This forum is a great resource and reminiscent of my early days in the import tuner clubs. Thanks everyone.

4 to 5 does make a big difference, if you are er.............big.
On 4 our back shock bottoms out especially if two up with luggage. On 5 not so. Ours was replaced for a new OEM at 50,000 miles, the difference was instantly evident. But that's probably like the feeling you get with new tyres.
