Well, for those who follow endurance riding stories, here's one about the newest record setter for the Cannonball Solo Run across the US on a Yamaha Super Tenere.

Adam Frasca departed Manhattan, NYC at 12:03 AM EDT Tuesday, April 9th, 2019 and arrived Redondo Beach, LA at 10:10 AM PDT besting the previous record by 1 hours and 42 minutes. His new record . . . 37 hours and 7 minutes.

Here's the story:

Here's the video of his arrival at the finish:

Seems like a really nice guy. Enjoy the adventure,
Shuey

Well done Adam. Congratulations.
That Super Tenere was making some seriously good time.

Just cannot imagine such a feat, surprised it hasn't received more attention, thanks for sharing.

Ticket for 119 in a 75, totally legal!!

Shuey I thought you didn't need to race um speed to do these "endurance" rides.

arrived at 10:10AM Wed. in Redondo, he had to hit some morning commute traffic on the 91. Wonder how much time that added?

Are there any rules for a cannonball run? Like the Iron Butt's max of 11 gallons of fuel aboard? Or can these guys pull a small trailer with some extra fuel to reduce fuel stops, and maybe a funnel aboard leading to a catch jar for relieving himself? Forget the catch jar, make it a total loss system.....

You don't. This wasn't a sanctioned IBA ride and won't be recognized by that organization.

Somebody has to ask: What type of oil did he use, what brand seat, and what tires were on the Yamaha?

I must have missed it somewhere in the story that 119 in a 75 was totally legal! Whatever the speed, the story reports two tickets, so . . . not legal.
As for "endurance" riding requiring speed to succeed . . . I definitely don't think so. NYC to Redondo non-stop is an endurance ride. Doing it in 39 or whatever hours? I think that'd be a "contest" that also required endurance, like "oude gait" posted.

SMSW asked, "Are there any rules for a cannonball run? Like the Iron Butt's max of 11 gallons of fuel aboard? Or can these guys pull a small trailer with some extra fuel to reduce fuel stops, and maybe a funnel aboard leading to a catch jar for relieving himself?"

I have no idea what the cannonball run rules are, but like dduelin noted, it isn't an IBA event and wouldn't be recognized. As to fuel, the IBA limit for the Iron Butt Rally is a max of 11.5 gallons. Evidently that's not a limitation for the cannonball run since the rider prepared his bike with an additional 16 gallons of fuel to supplement the 6 gallons it normally carries. His system failed, but he gave it a try and so evidently allowed.

As for the funnel and a catch jar idea . . . well, some riders already use commercially available solutions to accommodate needed relief. I've known of two riding the IBR with solutions to this need.

OK, that's my 2 cents worth.

More questions? Other thoughts? Chime in.

Wow, what a feat! And was that Reese, the previous record holder meeting him at the finish? And to do it without all the safety chase and lead teams with their communications and advance police warning systems... Think what his time would be if the extra fuel system had worked, 5 stops instead of 25!

And I was wiped at 22.5 hours and 872 miles, couldn't even think of going that long...distance or hours!

Just an opinion...to primarily ride at high speed for 37 hrs with no or limited sleep, and limited drink food, and bathroom breaks on a motorcycle doesn’t exactly seem safe. Yes, he did it and lived, but I’m sure other people who tried would either give up the attempt or fall asleep at the bars and crash. Worse events would involve a crash with another person because of the ‘attempt’. It just seems kind of dumb to me.

Many accidents have happened over the years with people doing just that....

Even with my little adventure of 22.5 hours and 872 miles, was not planned, it just happened and I hope to NEVER repeat it!

must have been a lot of back roads, those can be harder than slabs. I did 1150 in 18 hrs, the afternoon was brutal with the heat but after 6 when it cooled down it was enjoyable
