Hi Everyone - I installed some new Delkevics mufflers, and I'm getting a bit of backfiring / popping on deceleration. I'm sure this has been written about before, and I tried to do a search for known issues with the Delkevics, but to no avail... Any of you fellers who installed the Delkevics, know a fix?? I'm all ears... Thanks for any useful information... :)

Hi Ron. Mine also pop and previous threads indicate that is completely normal. Some responders thought the OEM pipes also pop but it is so quiet you cannot tell. Kind of like a sewing machine passing gas, I guess.

Every bike I've ever had will do this, aftermarket pipes make this more noticeable.

I kinda like it.

I had the popping with my old V-Star 1100 and it kinda annoyed me...sounded like a Hardly... I really want to go with the Delkevic's but it depends on how pronounced it is. I think it also depends on whether the baffles are installed or not. And I always throttle up to match revs when downshifting (I hate to hear someone just CLUNK it into gear with the clutch held in). Either that or don't ever decelerate!

Mello, hello from New brunswick. Second summer with 18" Delkevics. Love 'em. Like the sound and 53mpg at a steady 75 mph! Do you have any concerns about any long term effects on engine due to what I presume is now a leaner fuel mix? Thanks

Not one bit. If you pull your plugs and they look fine then it's fine. I've been running mine for a long time now and it's just not an issue to me.

I had the same issue with the 2brothers pipes, just louder! I had to sell them though. Early morning rides were hard on the neighbors.

You removed the catalytic converter when you swapped cans.
I don't think the engine runs any leaner though.
Wouldn't worry about it.

You could always wire a couple of spark plugs to the tips of the cans.....

Im thinking of buying Delkevic silencers but having listened to them on you tube, the backfire noise would get on my nerves. Is there a proper fix for this?

If you have all the clamps properly tightened, they will not pop. Mine never did.
I don't think most folks tighten up the clamps properly.

I have a set in the garage that I'll bet are louder. The Delkevics are much quieter. I guess I never noticed any pop out of mine. Must be the K&N air filter. :D

They all pop, even your OEM pipes do it.. but they are so quiet you don't notice most of the time.

Well I fitted the delkevic silencers, got the 450mm length with the down turned end pipe. Very nice too. In the process of fitting them I plugged the PAIR valve intake which is inside the air filter box. As a result I've prevented any popping when decelerating. Can anybody re assure me that I wont cause any damage to the engine by doing this?

Having read previous advice I think that I'm on safe ground, but I'm no expert. Thanks.
