I have a HJC CL-SP full face and I think it's noisy. I used another helmet as a rental last summer and that helmet was much quieter from wind noise. I don't remember the make and I probably wouldn't get that exact one because it didn't fit me as well as my HJC.
I know that noisy is subjective but I can't tell if one helmet is different than another in the store without riding with it for some miles, either. I tried a few on then I bought the HJC via internet for the color I wanted and got lucky that it fit so good.
What are some recommendations for quiet full face lids? Has anyone replaced a CL-SP with something they like?

There is also a product called "Quiet Rider". It's a cloth piece that attaches to the bottom of the helmet. It essentially closes you into the helmet (not as bad as it sounds). Many riders have stated that it has quieted down the helmet. If your dealer has "Parts Unlimited", they carry it.

Try and think about it this way. If you could wear a round fish bowl on your head it would be the quietest for the following reasons:

- shape allows smooth airflow around it

- no openings to allow air or noise in

Now, finding a helmet that would be this quiet is really hard. A full-face with shield and no vents might come close. The problem is that shields rarely seal 100% and they don't fit into the shell for a totally smooth surface. This means that air will leak in or out and that will cause noise.

The problem with helmets without vents is they get hot so you need vents to stay cool. That means you are compromising with some noise. Where the vents are placed, their shape and how well they seal when not needed will determine how quiet the helmet will be.

The search for the ultimate helmet means a lot of research on what you need and what others have already observe red with their helmets. Even if someone else says they have found THEIR ultimate helmet, it may not be the same for you.

I had a helmet many years ago that had a mechanical attachment that allowed the face shield to be brought right into the hemet seals. You would roll this thumb wheel in or out to seal the face shield in or to move it out so you could lift it up. I'm not sure if they still make this style but it was truly the best/quietest helmet I ever had. The thumb wheel was located next to my neck on the right side.

You might want to look for one of these (Bell Star 2) and just duct tape around the face shield...that is if you don't wear glasses...:p:

My first full faced helmet was one of these babies...in orange! :D

LOL! My first full face was a Bell Star (not II), in orange. My roomie at the time bought one, too, and we could spot each other half a mile away at 70 mph.

I have a MultiTec, or should I say I'm about to replace my almost new MultiTec with a new MultiTec and even though it's pretty good for wind noise, you still get it, so I just turn the radio up louder...:D

Ihope you're being facetious. (I think you are)

But if anyone takes this suggestion seriously, check out:

Earplugs should be considered part of ATGATT, if you want to preserve your hearing.
