Hi guys, this thread is for anyone looking at a new seat by Saddleman.I read the forums about the seat and talked to several people on the ST owners site.No one gave a written "play by play" persay;Ijust got my new seat in today from saddleman(travelcade).I am 6' tall about 200lbs(depending on if I went by a local resturant for 30 cent "wing" nite!)The first thing I noticed is that the saddleman pivoted my hipps back instead of forward. It gives me the feeling of sitting in a bucket seat. The back of the seat actually gives you some lumbar support. The split cushion in your tailbone area is great. It keeps your tailbone free from pressure. The next thing I noticed is the firmness of the seat.I first thought the seat may be hard like a corbin seat, but after about two miles the gel kicked into gear. You could feel the pressure points(hip bones) start to disapear, and support the areas around the hip bones. The firmness was actually a plus,it felt like I had more control of the "beast".The stock seat felt like I was tilted forward which made me push back on the handlebars whitch created arm fatigue fairly quickly.I do have about 2.5 Inches of rise on my bars.On the stock seat my knees were in some what of a bind also. The saddleman took away the stress on my arms and it seems also took some pressure off my knees.I think the key is all in the hipps being rotated towards the rear.My purchace was made partly by my budget, and partly on the amount of miles I ride. The most I usually do is about 500 miles in one days time. The seat of choice seems to be the russell day long. The miles I put in and the cost led me to the saddleman, and plus I have had saddleman seats on all my Goldwings,LOVED THEM.So,having said:biker: all this I hope this will give some good insight into your purchace of a seat. Thanks and God Bless:biker:

Do you have a link for the site Saddleman finder shows no seat for the ST1300

They do not make a seat for the ST1300. I had the ST1100 version myself and loved it so much that I installed it on my ST1300.

Jan sewed a new cover for it in leather this spring.

New plastic, new leather.
I would be afraid to park my more experienced 04 next to your showroom 04.
I am soooo jealous. :)

Thanks Dave. I bought my first 04 new and it was a non ABS model. I looked after it and it was showroom fresh. When I decided to sell it to find an ABS 04 I found my present one advertised on here for a good price in Texas.

When I got there I realized it was less than perfect,it seems it had a less than sheltered life for the first few years but had low miles so I bought it.

I knew I was gonna add a pile of stuff and make it look like new.

I think it looks better than new now. I'm happy with it.

Mr Blue,I must say that was a heck-of-job on that seat from an 11 to a 13.Now that I have mine on the bike I can see why you would take on a project like that.Oh,and by the way it was proven that "RED" was way faster than blue........Just thought I would through that in there....Thanks guy.:biker:

I really miss the Saddleman Stealth seat that I had on my ST1100. I now ride a ST1300 with a Spencer modified seat. What is involved in modifying the stealth ST1100 seat to fit on the ST1300??

Tom

First of all I removed the cover and foam from the ST1300 pans. Then I selected the position I wanted in the adjustment range (Mid point for me as there will no longer be adjustability)

Then I bolted the 2 pans together into one with a couple small strips of metal on the sides.

The Travelcade seat was stripped of its ST1100 seat pan and cover. The foam for the horn area (just forward of the riders position gel pad) where the seat fits around the tank is obviously different.

So using a straight razor knife, I cut that part off the Travelcade seat. I then made a straight cut in the required place on the stock ST1300 seat foam and then glued that front piece to the Travelcade foam.

The seat now had the proper horn shape to fit the tank. The next step was fitting to the ST1300 pans. All that was required was A couple of adjustments.

The front seat pan of the ST1300 has a deep pocket down where the adjustment area is right below where you sit. The ST1100 was more flat.

I trimmed the ST1300 stock foam down to just fill that area of the seat pan flush so the ST1100 Travelcade seat would sit on top.

A couple of depressions were carved into the sides of the seat foam as well along the area where clearance is needed for the ST1300 saddlebag latch levers. These are about 1/2" x 4" with tapered ends for smoothness.

The whole thing was then glued to the seat pans (3M Super 77 spray glue for all gluing) and covered completely with 1/4" smoothing foam also glued in place.

Next came the cover. As you have seen the seat now has a new leather cover my sweetheart Jan sewed up for me.

To start out with however we had sewn the front part of the ST1300 cover to the Travelcades original saddlehyde vinyl cover.

I'll post a picture, the seam in the foam to graft the 2 seats is directly under that seam in the covers.

In all ,it was not as difficult as it all sounds. I ended up buying a $100 air powered upholstery stapler to help out.

The seat is extremely comfortable and quite a few people liked and sat on it at Westoc this year with the new leather.

Very innovative job Larry, and Jan does first class work! I'm trying to come up with a workable solution covered in leather also. willy

Thanks for sharing. I would like to sit on the seat before I take out a straight razor. You plan on traveling east of the Mississippi any time soon?

Probably not, although all you really have to do is find an ST1100 fitted with the same seat and try it out. Not a lot of difference once fitted to the 1300.

Extremely comfortable to be sure. :)

The seat now has a couple of rides on it,and the seat seems to be breaking in to my back side quite nicely. The first time I rode on it it took about 35 to 45 miles to start spreading out the pressure,as of today, about 10 miles.Oh,and by the way,the lumbar support is great!I feel I got a great deal ,and it seems to get better all the time.:biker:

Just FYI I emailed Saddkemen this was their reply -

"Mark,

We are hoping to make a solo seat shortly for the ST1300 but don't have a time frame on it yet.

Best regards,

Saddlemen"

I was asking about front seat only, I assume this applys to full seat as well.

I would not hold your breath on this one. I had been waiting for them to do a seat for the ST1300 since it came out in 03.

Since it never showed up I did the conversion on my bike myself.

What I find interesting is this picture from the Travelcade Saddlemen website of a seat they don't sell !! (I think mine looks better anyway!)
