Good morning everyone

There's French roast coffee in the pot, and plenty to share with my friends.

It's 25°F in Rockville but feels like 15 thanks to a 6 mph west wind. Mostly cloudy and a high around 37 are anticipated.

I can see that sunsets are taking place measurably later- we've already clawed back almost ten minutes of daylight before the sun disappears. It's still rising later though- we won't begin to receive our daily dose of ambient Vitamin D until 0727.

I'll keep working on the bench today, until around 1600 hours when my cousin and her husband will arrive for our annual NYE get-together. We'll probably last until 2100 hours and call it good. Maybe I'll advance the wall clock so that it chimes midnight at what is actually 2000 or 2100 hours, so we can at least simulate staying up late.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

What inspires you to get out of bed every morning?
My bladder and a desperate urge for coffee... :coffee:

G'Day...

-3°/-1°C today, mostly cloudy with chances for some snow afternoon/evening...

found something about the impacts, and the pro & cons of caffeine:

hoped out of bed a tad earlier today (actually the yapping of neighbor/female voices outside ended my sleep rather abruptly...)
had my first cup in solitary quietness... :coffee:
once the dawn broke ze GF joined me, so a small breakfast and another cup... ☕

Got dressed and grabbed the keys for GF's Skoda to make my planned round (check on the shed and grab some resupplies at my place...)

The tale of "girls and their vehicles" however never disappoints... ;)
Right when that diesel fired loud 'dings!' and flashing started [STOP! Check coolant!]... ooch...
Killed the engine, popped the hood, made a walk-around and had a peek:
no poodles on the ground or in the engine bay, hoses and rad dry, level in expansion tank sitting dead on MIN (which I'd assumed normal on a cold engine...), but upon squeezing the upper radiator hose I heard the gushing and gargling of air inside... ah-ja...

No engine coolant in da house, its a cold day, aprox 15~20min to the shed, mostly motorway... gonna risk it...
Tried taking it easy and coasting along, but the trouble with AT: you can't control the engine rpm as you'd do with a manual...

Anyhoo, topped the thing up and hope is bleeds itself so far... (IIRC do those systems require a vacuum filling procedure...)

The best part was the reaction of ze GF on this: ... oh yes, it does show that from time to time... pfffff...

Haven't figured out what to wear or if I even bother to go downstairs tonight... ;)

No parties here, just a calm evening, some TV, and the hope that folks don't throw too much ordnance around... :cautious:

have a nice change into the new year! 😎

Thx Keith!

4˚c/39f, calm and overcast with showers.
A storm of some kind is approaching from west, bringing gale force wind and heavy rain to those who intend to fire up some fireworks later.

As my son left yesterday, a nephew moved in…for a few nights.
He can’t stand his mothers new boyfriend ( their visiting MIL from another town), so he wanted to sleep at our house.
He’s 18, but acting as a 14 year old.
I’ve been told not to scare him….pfffffft!

Tonights menu was first meant to be sushi, then pizza, all takeaway, but right now it’s tacos, homemade….

Peter is coming over in a bit, he usually takes the grumpiness out of me!

Happy new year!
Stu

Final walk of 2025, Dec 31…in a few days, all will be white and frozen «they» say….

Morning all, and thanks Keith for the coffee.

Glad there's no urgency to the bench, as bench pressing an be dangerous without proper planning.

-12/-20 here but sunny and clear. Highs should top out around -7-14.

Thing2 leaves today to head back home. Children leaving is always bitter sweet. Now if I could only get Thing1 & 1A to move out again.....

Hope everyone has a great New Year's Eve and all that jazz,

Obo.

Good morning, all, and thanks for the coffee, Keith! Yes, I, too am noticing the oh-so-slightly-later setting of the sun. Sunrise is still late here, but the orb is now clearing the horizon just a smidge earlier than it was a couple of weeks ago. Makes me smile.

And speaking of sun, it's back and shining brightly after Monday's icy nastiness. Still cold and blustery, though; today's temps will range from the current -13°C/9°F to -11°C/12°F, with windchills ranging from -23°C/-9°F to -15°C/5°F. Tonight we get snow, and quite a lot of it. I suspect some of my buddies will be out cross-country skiing and/or snowshoeing tomorrow, conditions should be great.

Whelp, I have a full day of doing next to nothing ahead of me, so I'd best get a move on...or not! Everyone have a great day, enjoy tonight's festivities if you're partaking in them stay safe and go safely.

Patty

Good morning, everyone. Thanks for the hot bean drippings, Keith.

Still cold, at 24, but “may” reach 50 this afternoon.

Last January, I made a list of things to get done this year, and now I’m scrambling with time running out. Hopefully, I can find where I put the list.

I wish everyone a Happy New Year. And since I won’t be awake to welcome the new year, “A toast to the past, a toast to the future, and a toast to friends near, far, and dear.”

John

Happy New Year to all of you. It's a new year and an anniversary for these cats. I'm not sure if this is number 8 or 9 so I'll wait for her to say it first. We just returned from the Holiday Required trip to Ohio and let's say I remain unimpressed.

We're in the end of the Year of the Snake so be prepared to shed the last remains of the removables and prepare yourself for the Year of the Horse. You have let go of the "stuff" and now it is time to ride.

If you've been aware of our purchase of the drug house next door the outside transformation is doing it's job. It's a pretty little G'Ma looking place now and the neighbors have literally asked "where did that house come from?" To me this is a very high compliment. That house has been a eye-sore for several years and now it is "gone."

You cats be safe and let the weird stuff go to be ready to embrace the new exciting things.

Good Morning, and Happy New Year. Thx Keith for COFFEE. This New Years resolution, forget the past, and LIVE in the moment! As I write, Stephan Wolfs song Born to be Wild is running through my head, "Get your Motor Running, head out on the highway" but first Breakfast. Weather, Cloudy 1C/33 F high of 7 C/ 44 F Slight breeze from NNE at 4 mph, humidity 93% , it's a Cold Damp day which the bike engine loves, tires not so much. Which makes me wonder how would Water injection on Lady would work? Well time to make breakfast, so all the best to Y'all, G

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee start, Keith.

And happy anniversery to Capt Gruuvy!

It's sunny and 28, rising to 30. Wind will be lower, at 10-15 mph.

We did some cleaning, yesteray, and dined out at our local Mexican place. The Margueritas hit me around 2:00am, and I had to get up to deal with the queesy stomach. Something about whatever mix they use caused me stomach issues. I was downstairs for about 2 hours, before going back to bed.
I guess that whaterver I did worked because Brenda woke me at 10:30!

Today, we'll do some shopping, and see where we end up, afterwards.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

Morning Keith, Martin & All from cloudy Southern Utah!

Currently it is 31F, up from 18F and heading for 46F. The next storm is on it's way and should show up tonight. But, we aren't expecting to see much out of it. A slight breeze now and later, the winds will be out of the SW@ 6 to7mph.

Chris's new birdfeeder came in from Wyze. I had the camera running in no time. My biggest issue was getting power to it. I decided to mount it on the pole we hang the Hummingbird feeder on, so it looks like it will work. We then had to hook up Chris's iPhone to it. That took a few minutes more than expected. But it is working. I do need to remount the camera in the feeder, since I brought it in for the exercise of installing it on the iPhone. Then around 5:30, Chris's friend, that is in rehab, asked Chris to come visit. While there, Chris presented her with a quilt, Chris had been working on all week. Her friend loved it. :)

Not sure what all will happen today. Tomorrow, we are supposed to go to some friends house for a little gathering.

No food/drink yet, since Chris is still asleep. Pepsi(s) will be on the menu at some point.

Anyone :dr13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

Howdy from SoMD! I'm already 2+ cups into my day, thanks Keith! Trying to get things done in the garage finishing adding insulation to the garage door. It's been mostly done since last winter except for the 4 panels that run under the locking bars when the lock handle is turned. Those required some finagling. Had two of them done a month ago, working on the second to last...when I misplaced my knife (which I bought specifically for this!) to cut the foam board. ARRRGHH! I hate my brain sometimes...

NYE celebrations will again consist of visiting the wife's former boss. They're a nice couple and they pull out all the stops for dinner, but a bit stodgy for me. But I havent had a good enough idea to offer an alternative, so again go I there.

Welp, back to the knife hunt. Oh, yeah, it's pretty cold too. Take care y'all!

My workbench and the surrounding flat spaces have built-in cloaking devices, activated automatically whenever a tool or workpiece is set on them. Said items vanish instantly and without a trace, causing endless time sucks as I grope around hunting for that thing the I just set down a second ago.

I usually just blame the Prince Of Purrrsia and his neverending scientific tests of gravity on random stuff, but he's not in the garage, where I found the knife...right where I left it of course!
