the 91 st is dead . no juice to the starter, lights etc. the batery is good ,the ignition switch has power and functions as should, all the fuses are good.
besides the alternator (40 amp) what could be the problem? the grounds show continuity through the negative hook-up
thanks. Fred

Take a look at the 4 pin connector where it connects into the main relay. This is a typical failure point. There is also a 30 amp main fuse plugged into the relay. The fuse may also be destroyed. I would bet money this is where the problem is. The relay is under the LH side cover just in front of the battery.

Dan , right on ! a good melted mess I have in mind to forego the melted harness plug and go directly to the relay if it still good. what would cause such melt down? the 40 amp? or the diode rectifier?
thanks

As the connections build up resistance over the years due to corrosion or becoming slightly loose a lot of heat is generated that causes the melting. Many have had this issue and there are articles on how to repair this. Basically removing the four pin connector and fitting good solid connections. Other fixes as well.
