I see some on ebay but I was hoping somebody would tell me they bought some recently that worked well.

I guess it doesn't matter....But, What are you talking about??? WHat is a block off plate???

Dave,
The PAIR system is for emissions. Pumps air into the exhaust at the cylinder heads. Those pretty chrome tubes that attach to the heads that you can see by the valve covers pass air from the pumps (under the carbs).

I pulled the entire PAIR system off while I was doing my cruise control install, made my own block off plates, put some red high-temp silicone on them when installed and have had no issues.

If you are going to pull the carbs, make sure to order new carb boots (isolators?) before you do. The originals will probably be brittle and break into pieces when you pull the carbs.

I wasn't planning on removing them, but I've been tearing the bike down to replace the coolant seals and hoses underneath the carbs. The pair valves and hoses were driving me crazy, so I ended up deciding to yank them all off. Not for performance, not for reliability, just to reduce all that clutter and give me some room to work :D Though, now I have to go get more parts to block off the ports and to cap off all the vacuum tubes...

When I had my VFR a lot of people were doing this too, perhaps the block is the same size? I know I've seen the marble mod to block it.

When I removed the PAIR system I cut the chrome tubes behind the motor and flattened the cut ends and welded them shut. No PAIR but it looks like I have it. I would suggest carb removal for what you are wanting to do.

I just made them myself. Piece of bar stock, hacksaw, file and a drill. A little "ultra copper" to seal things up

Haven't had time to install all of them yet, but I put one of the blocking plates from 6sigmajetkit on ebay on my bike. They aren't the fanciest things ever, but it appears that it will work fine. You will have to make sure you re-use your old gaskets or order some new ones though as the kit doesn't include any of those.

The Ultra Copper will work better than the gaskets...

FWIW - the ST1100 Air Suction Valves are passive, they're not 'pumps'. They are vacuum operated - they close and cut off the air to the exhaust manifold when the intake manifold ports generate high vacuum during throttle roll-off. RTM

They do not affect performance. Removing them only results in a bit more pollution.
