I have done you share if iconic rides, Dragon, Beartooth, Blue ridge and others but the ride up and down Piles Peak is the most exciting ride I have been on. What a thrill.

You must have gone on a off day!

I went up Pike's Peak on August 27th, a Saturday, with a group of ST-Owers.

It was slow going due to so many people going up (and I'm not talking about our group, either!)

I found Beartooth Pass a lot better, very few cages in the way! :)

Bob, I went on a Monday, passed cages below treeline, many pulled over, but nobody I front for last push to summit, and it sure was cold up there.

It is a nice ride, Ron. We had a little traffic when we went up last summer, but the trip back down was fun. Barry & I followed a guy in a Mustang down at a brisk pace.....until the ranger met us.

Having lived in Colorado for 12 years, went up to the Peak quite a few times, both by bike and cog railway.

Did the altitude have any lasting impact on your cobbler ingredients in your saddlebags ? WOW, you've had quite a year riding and I'm happy for you. Hoping Marcia was waiting for you at base camp. It would be great to meet up
at a campfire and here the tales ( tall ones too) of your 2016 exploits. Ride safely my friend and enjoy the ride.

You ought to do Trail Ridge in the RMNP, or MT. Evans, or Independence Pass, or Cotton Wood Pass, or Red Mountain Pass above Ouray on 550. Just saying. ;):) O and then don't forget about all the 4x4 dirt Passes. Black Bear, Engineer, ETC.

How was your breathing? I couldn't stay up there too long, I didn't feel like riding down being that long without air! :o:

Love the thin air. Builds stamina. Can't stand all that thick air down in the Flats. Gotta get my Rocky Mountain High somehow.:D

Yeah, while we were up there, Dave's son and grandson were running all over up there. But they had been in Colorado Springs for a few years and Daniel just got out of the Army, so he was use to the thin air and running around! ;)

Dave and I weren't and I could feel the effects of the thin air.

Yesterday I was at the beach for lunch... How's this for Elevation?

Bob, the altitude didn't bother me just being there, but the short up hill walk to my bike from the visitors center made me huff and puff. I also enjoyed my doughnut.

But will you lead him over Mosquito Pass? :D I sure am glad those guys were there on there four wheelers to help us out! That was an experience I will never forget. Glad we made it down safe!

I did Mt Evans eons ago on a Honda CB500 four. It is a fantastic ride.

Just did Pikes Peak last month from WeSTOC. It was on my road bucket list. Traffic wasn’t too bad and the road was reasonably clean, some snow melt drainage and gravel though. The key is to keep your momentum around the switchbacks.
Regarding altitude, I only noticed a little dizziness when paddling my bike backwards to park at the top. Wandered around the visiter center, up and down some stairs and didn’t really have any issues. It probably helped being Cañon City, at ~6000 ft., a few days prior to acclimate a little.

I live in Colorado Springs, and my house is just a tad above 7,000 ft, but I was still feeling it a little at the very top. :-) must be age related, don't recall that issue last time I was up there about 8 years ago. :D

Maybe age, I’m 72 though and live at basically sea level. I did Mount Evans maybe 12-15 years ago. Got a little dizzy that time too.
