Progressive Suspension: 465 Series Shock (Standard) - Honda ST1300

Robert 6

Looking for some feedback on the progressive suspension shock without the remote preload
There is a standard model 465-1174 and the inch lower model 465-1175, both are priced at $446, anyone out there has any thoughts, my 2006 has 126,000KM and she is way done in the shock department

thanks R6

I don't know about the Progressive units; Race Tech will rebuild your OEM shock with their Gold Valves and a new spring calibrated to your weight for a little less, and you get to retain the remote preload adjustment. I'm liking mine. (I also have a spare OEM for loan to anyone who's doing a rebuild. You don't want to change the rear shock out twice if you can avoid it.)

Hi,

Progressive used my ST as the development proto type for the 465 shock. I can tell you that it made a huge difference in how the bike worked. They have developed specific valveing for the ST and all the 465 shocks are hand made and tested here. I would recommend them as an option.

Thanks Tom

Would a RaceTech rebuilt 1300 shock work on an 1100?

No, they are not interchangeable. The lower mounting of the ST1300 shock is a clevis arrangement, unlike the 11. Even if you could mount an ST13 shock to an 1100 it would not work very well. The 13's shock is mounted much further forward on the swing arm so has significantly less shock travel per inch of wheel travel. It also carries a much heavier spring to accommodate the greater leverage such a mounting position inflicts. I haven't compared them but the overall length is probably different too.

Their application chart lists the stock 1100 shock as "unrebuildable." They list a Gold Valve kit, factory installed only, for it also. Perhaps this means they can do the rebuild in house. You could call them at (951) 279 - 6655. The tech support and sales people there were friendly and very helpful when I dealt with them.

Immediately after they received my shock, Race Tech e-mailed me a detailed list of what would be needed and the total cost. They rebuilt the shock the day I replied, and shipped it immediately. The shipping time is the major factor, as they're really quick. By the way, I have a spare OEM that is available. See this thread:https://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?98611-OEM-ST1300-Rear-Shock-Absorber&highlight=

This is an improvement over my experience with RaceTech. I talked to them twice on the phone before shipping and was expecting one price and when the shock was done two weeks later the price was about $75 more than quoted but I had no written or emailed quote, just a higher charge on my credit card than I was verbally quoted. They forgot to include the cost of the Gold Valve and other parts required for the rebuild from OEM spec. I think the difference was $75 - I can't remember exactly. Shipping was 7 days UPS to them. They did the shock in one week and 7 days back. When I opened the box I found the remote adjuster was not overhauled as expected. If I knew then what I know now I would have refilled it myself but I sent it back for "rebuilding". They were supposed to ship it back 2 day air but did not. They shipped it 2 days later ground so it took a week and a couple of days longer than I was told to expect. My shock was out of service for 5 1/2 weeks.

After all that I have been very happy with the shock rebuild for the last 14,000 miles. I still recommend the Gold Valve rebuild by RaceTech - just make sure about the price before hand.

Hi, just wondered how your new progressive suspension setup worked out and if you regretted not going for one with the remote preload adjuster? my 01 st1100 suspension is shot to bits so need to get a new shock and probably new fork springs and oil asap, thanks
