Q about turn by turn audio - Scala Q2

As a toe in the water of helmet communicators I installed a hand me down Q2 in my Neotec. Following the manual's instructions the unit paired immediately with my Garmin 550 and then my iPhone 5s. The GPS shows both units paired and an audio feed selection of phone and navigation. I can use the Q2 taps or the 550 screen buttons to make and receive calls when riding but the GPS audio turn by turn directions are muted and not coming out of the helmet speakers.

Is there a trick or button push sequence to enable nav audio that I missed?

My bike budget still prioritizes some things for the new Tiger so I really don't want to spend any of it on a newer Scala or Sena just for this function. I still plan on using my earbuds from the 550 for Sirius music so I get wired nav audio when listening to music but it would be nice to get nav audio wireless when the Sirius is not in use.
 
Dave with my sena I use an SM10 transmitter the GPS plugs in to it and I get mey music/XM and voice directions through it the phone gets paired to the head set not the GPS.

I'd try removing the phone from the pairing. Actually just delete all pairing on the Zumo. The re-pair just the Zumo and Scala. See if you get directions then.

Eliminate all complications and start with the basics.

I think that T_C has made the best suggestion, immediately above.

The key issue you have to keep in mind when using 3 Bluetooth items together is that the pairing has to be linear, with only one device in the middle acting as a hub between the other two on either side. In other words, you need to pair the iPhone with the GPS (only) and the headset with the GPS (only). You don't want to set up a triangular pairing in which any one of the devices is paired with both of the other devices.

My understanding of the Garmin architecture is that they design the Zumos to act as a hub, and the Zumo will arbitrate conflicts between audio coming from the phone (music or telephone calls) and audio coming from the GPS device (spoken directions). Hence both the iPhone and the headset should be paired ONLY with the GPS, and not with each other.

As T_C suggested, you should clear the pairings from all three of the devices - make sure none of the three are paired with any others of the three - then start the pairing process over again. For sake of simplicity, I suggest you first pair the headset with the GPS (this because a GPS & headset system, without a third component, is a very common configuration) and then confirm that you can hear navigation directions from the GPS through the headset. Use the system that way (without adding the iPhone to the mix) for a few hours to enable you to become familiar and confident with the capabilities of the GPS/headset pairing.

Once you are familiar with and confident with the GPS/headset audio performance and capabilities, pair the iPhone with the GPS device (have the headset turned off when you do this). After pairing the iPhone to the GPS, turn all three devices off, then turn them back on in any order. Once they are all on, you should be able to conduct telephony and hear navigation instructions. If the Zumo 550 supports music playing directly from the iPhone, you will be able to hear music as well.

It really depends on which version of the Q2 you have. Earlier models (Q2) were bluetooth version 2.0, class 1. These do not play well with newer devices.
When they came out with the Q2 Pro they went to A2DP. Cardosystems Data Sheets
 
The Q2 does not support A2DP, so you're out of luck as far as turn-by-turn audio since usually uses the A2DP profile.

Thanks for the responses. I did go back and delete the pairings and re-paired the Scala to the 550 then the iPhone to the 550. This gave me turn by turn audio I was looking for but voice dialing through the Q2 became quirky and it appears I'd be forced to use the 550's screens for phone dialing or using the phone book. I would be able to do this if necessary but it would be nice to use the Q2 link to the phone for Siri as it was before. Given the choice I'd give up turn by turn in order to get hands-free use of the phone and if Siri cannot connect me to a specific number I can fall back to the 550 for it's dialing support.

I guess these conflicts are why the Q2 is old technology now and has been left behind by newer versions and Sena's current product line.
