Quite possibly the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.

In Washington there is a ski area called Crystal Mountain, We hiked up it during the summer and noticed a bunch of flags mounted on rocks even with serious drops off them.
Mountain bike downhill courses. I would break a leg trying to walk down them, these riders must be crazy too!

In Alps (Europe) came across the World Downhill Roller blade championships.

Same idea but on twisting tarred Alpine road.

Classes for basically anything you could build using roller blade / skateboard wheels.

That included back down and face down luges.

Stopping methods were pieces of tyres zip tied to shoes or leather gloves with big steel studs.

Let's see, a prepared course, taken at speed that ends . . . at a busy cross traffic paved road? Exciting to watch, but not for me.

Summer 2024 I was headed up one of California's passes in the Sierras. I think it was Sonora Pass. I'm coming out of a tight bend and coming face to face with a group of skateboarders. :eek-2x: We each stayed in our lanes but I couldn't help thinking of how steep that pass was and how tight some of those corners were...

...and yet... One can only hope they have not contributed to the gene pool. ;)
