Quite possibly the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.

That was fantastic. Every second of it. I don’t know how any of them finished in one piece and upright. The running commentary was so entertaining. They made it look so easy riding so close to one another.
Thanks for posting.

I'm out.

That's more fun than I like to have in a year let alone a day. Those Marios do have brakes but I wonder how long they'd be effective if kept at smell the roses speeds considering the length of that run. At the speeds they were doing it wouldn't be roses from me.

As with any road race, knowing the course is key. I'm sure they had many practice runs before this one.

Of course it is. I used to do the Sunday Morning Ride out here from Mill Valley to Inverness. Lots of fun and a decent breakfast. Much of the rest of the group continued on afterwards to Marshall. That was time for me to head home. The more I rode it the faster I got. But that was never nearly as fast as other riders who'd been riding it longer and much faster than me. How much practice they had was irrelevant to me. I rode up to but not including the point where it stopped being fun to me.

Same goes for this downhill fun. I'm sure they have. That's more fun than I want to have in a single day. Nothing I said reflected their ability or good sense. It's just not something that would be fun for me. I lean towards riding not racing or rubbing'. At the end of the day that's really the only important takeaway.

Wow! I did the SMR from Mill Valley back in the late 80s. We went to Pt. Reyes Station for breakfast then east and south back to 101 and the city. What an amazing ride that was. .

It was the mid-to-late '70s to me. We breakfasted at Vlad's in Inverness. Pt. Reyes being on the menu then. I've been there later a couple of times with friends. Both time it was so windy it wasn't a lot of fun. But yeah it was a fun ride.

Everyone would first gather at the Arco station. Riders and CHP. LOL! The CHP would leave and about 15 minutes later everyone started lining up on the side of the road. Hot shoes up front with lesser riders picking spots along the line where they felt comfortable. Then we're off. It was amazing actually to see this huuggge line of bikes rolling single file to Hwy1 and then making that turn.

Someone I knew from work came along one time. He was on his RD350 with Denco pipe so you knew he was fast. LOL! As bikes picked up speed for the first left hander he grabbed a handful and rode right off the edged of the road into hill.

The bike flipped vertical and slammed him into the hill. He jumped up laughing and I rode off. That was the last time I saw him on a bike. That was the only and closest thing to a crash I ever saw on the ride. The weather was always good except for occasional fog between Mill Valley and Stinson. A short break and then onto breakfast.

Just not for long. :)
I too wonder how long it'll take till some knuckleheads crash on the track or overshoot the end and get run over on the public road there, so authorities shutting down that enterprise...
Very much the same with the bans for motorcycles on some (nice) alpine roads: all it takes are a few undisciplined hooligans to spoil it for everyone...
BTW is the shown track in Soelden, Austria...

I haven't thought about Vlad's in Inverness for many years. Use to be one of my favorite places to eat back in the day. Vlad was a great horsemen, Olympic Gold Medal Winner I think, and trained Austrian, Lipizzannerr horses until he moved to California and became a restauranteur. Just looked him up, he was Czech. Unfortunately, Vlad passed away and the restaurant is closed.

I didn't know a thing about him which is too bad. It was my half-way point. After breakfast I'd saddle up and head home at a sedate pace. The sun was up and the fog gone and it was relaxing. On occasion I'd go through Woodside. Alice's was another gathering place. There would often be a parade of exotic cars rolling though. Nice to see how some 1% types rolled.

That ride down Skyline from SF to Alice’s through the dripping eucalyptus trees, man! What a great ride that is, arguably better than the SMR, I guess if you prefer trees to oceans. The Bay Area is just such an awesome place to ride. I miss it. I always enjoyed the fancy cars and bikes that were always at Alice’s. My VFR was so pedestrian comparatively.
