Review (brief) of a new Sargent Saddle

I purchased a Sargent (front only) saddle for my ST1300, with no upgrade to material or foam. I have about 300 miles on the seat so far. I did not want a couch (e.g., Russell, Mayer, etc.), just something a little better than stock. My initial impressions are as follows:

--It's about $125 overpriced. Nice little compartment for papers, though.
--Foam is more firm, but far more comfortable (to me) than stock.
--The shape allows for a larger area for butt/weight distribution.
--Synthetic cover does not allow any more bum-breathing than stock seat. So, I'll throw on my sheepskin cover.
--Higher foam than stock seat requires that I ride with the Sargent in the lowest position, which is higher than the stock seat in the middle position. You wee lads are gonna have a reach. Works well with my new Cee Baily +2" shield.
--Much more comfortable (for me) after 100 miles than stock. Still overpriced, though.
--Shape and foam allow more support where the seat gets thinner against the tank. That's a huge improvement over the stock Honda, especially in the twisties when I am forward and leaning.

I have a long ride to Skyline next week. More after the ride.
 
Count me in on the "ditto" parade....my sargent is 100 times more comfortable than stock (or Corbin)....makes a great upgrade.....:07biker:
 
I got mine slightly used for $450...worth every penny.. And look a heck of a lot cooler than the stock seat...
 
I've had mine for most of the 3 + years I've owned the bike..

I give it a B+. My biggest issue is the 'edge' and severity of the angle as it slopes down under my hamstrings. This edge digs into my hammies on long 400+ mile rides. I believe fat ash sinks into the seat creating more pressure on my hamstrings as they relate to where my rear end is..hard to explain..

I may send it to spenser to get more support in the rear end and shave off the edge so its not so drastic..
 
I had no problem with about 400 miles on the stock seat. The Sargent made 900 miles/day a piece of cake and it still allows the rider to hang off the seat when needed. But something has changed. I think the seat needs some attention as it doesn't feel as good as it used to (70k miles later).

BTW, the extra storage is a fantastic bonus! I would really miss it now.

Put me on the ditto list as well. I bought both halves (with heat options) for the Spring and Fall riding seasons. It has packed down a little but I'm good for a tank full without discomfort. Fill it up and I'm good to go again. Great seat. Marty

Here's the deal, 100 miles is not a discriminator for the Sargent. After 4 round trips from Phoenix to Reno, 755 miles each way, incredible story to tell: No ironbutt, none whatsoever...12 hours each way and my butt forever cured from the stock seat. Try a 1000+ mile trip and come back here and then sing praises (I bet)!:cool::cool::cool:
 
Yeah. They need a break-in period of at least 1k miles. Mine is nicely shaped to my ... ah... ahh... oh heck... what can I call it without getting banned.
 
Yes, yes. Too expensive. While it is difficult to place a price on comfort (my boney bum, your fat one, your wife's really fat one, etc.), my statement about "too expensive" was more about the materials and less about comfort. Essentially, I paid $350 for a front seat that includes a piece of molded plastic, a yard or so of mediocre vinyl, some poorly placed staples, and some shaped foam, although the foam seems a bit better than my Corolla's. There is nothing about the seat except comfort that suggests that it is any better than stock. All right, maybe the cute little compartment underneath where I stash my Cheech and Chong CDs is nice. But that's about it. The thing screams, "I should have cost about $225, or less." You Harley lovers.
 
Maybe you guys dont have the same problems on your sargent as me because your butts aren't as fat as mine...I go about 280 when I flex and flare out my lats..LOL

Oh, I'm the same as you Kempo... butt... no amount of seat is ever going to fix that. Maybe just salad for dinner tonight... bummer. :(:D
 
Just a note, Sargent is running about 45+ days on delivery right now. I have 11 coming in on Monday all of them are sold minus 1, our order date was 6-16-08 I have another order for 15 due in in 5 weeks. If you want one for the fall I would place an order now. Sorry about the hold-ups. Last summer they were taking about 2 to 3 weeks not 6.
