It's 60°F (feels like 53) and clear in Rockville but scattered showers are possible from 1300 to midnight, most likely between 1500 and 2100 hours. The high could reach 66.

As I stumbled toward the porcelain throne this morning I discovered a puddle of water in the utility room. Uh oh, not good. I'm pretty certain that it's a sign the water heater has failed, just as it did 14 or 15 years ago. Dealing with that means I'll have to cancel my previous plan, which was to join friends for a 30 mile bike ride.

Mrs. Fun is trying to strongarm me into going to her sister's place with her next weekend, after my ukulele workshop (also in the greater Philadelphia area) has ended. So much for all the goodwill I thought I had generated from her birthday.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

I'm only up now because I went to bed early last night.
But fortunately, that doesn't exempt me from a nap later.
And as for your question about meaning, I still am on my first cup of coffee, so that may disqualify me from deep cognitive thinking.
It may just mean someone was out kayaking on calm seas beneath a clear sky.
And that's the best I can do for now.
As for today's activities, again, it's too early to tell.
I'll likely watch the Alabama football game, although truthfully, the bloom has come off the college football rose.
For one, St. Nick is no longer the head coach, but coaches come and go.
No, I think it's more that this stinky NIL business has turned college athletes into paid professionals, and they all seem to be free agents now, and I don't see the team unity and growing together, as in the past.
I am not naive, and so I'm aware the NCAA is big business and has been for a long time.
What is the meaning of this?
Probably there is no meaning, just signs of the times.
So let's talk motorcycles.
I watched a YouTube video last night by a guy extolling the virtues of the vaunted ST1300. He talked for 20 minutes about the power, smoothness, quickness, reliability, handling, and... ease of maintenance?!
OK, some of that was factual, at least in comparison to some other bikes, but what left me stunned was his praise about the simplicity of replacing the clutch -- while not saying one single word about the brakes!
Not one!
The Linked Braking System, and the SMC, are vital components and a huge differentiator with other machines, and we all know the results of not changing brake fluid, the very specific bleeding process, or letting an ST sit for years.
Anyway, there were over 200 comments, and there were at least a dozen who said they purchased an ST based on his video.
Crazy.
Talk about an influencer!
His screen name was something like "bigdanhastoeat".
He's obviously an ST cheerleader, and while there's nothing wrong with that, he was a little over the top.
And I didn't see another motorcycle in his garage.
I found it amusing, and while not comprehensive, he was mostly right on everything else.
And once again, y'all get to witness the randomness of what rolls off my fingertips, when I post here with less than at least one full cup of coffee in me.
If I had had more, I guess i could have at least posted a link for those interested.

BigDan may HasToEat but I don't have to subsidize him... this whole "influencer as a way to make an income" thing is, IMNSHO, utterly ridiculous. It seems to me that anyone with the inclination and a video camera can position themselves to claim that they're an "influencer", completely without credentials, bona fide qualifications, or anything else to lend credibility to their claims. Hogwash.

In the Good News / Bad News department I think I jumped to conclusions too quickly, regarding the true source of water on the floor of the utility space. It appears that the water heater is still intact and not the culprit. That's the good news. The bad, or at least annoying and irritating, news is that the actual problem may be the month-old dehumidifier. It has an internal pump that is supposed to empty the tank so I don't have to but that pump didn't trigger. And, the shutoff that is supposed to automatically stop the unit when the tank is full, didn't.

I've got things dried out, or drying out (got a fan running to dry out the carpet in the bedroom closet, which adjoins the utility space) and emptied the dehumidifier bucket by hand. I've turned the pump option off and will monitor to see whether the bucket full shutoff triggers as expected.

In the meantime, I'll have to look into why it failed (is some cheap plastic part stuck in the wrong position?) and perhaps try to obtain a warranty replacement from Amazon's seller. Won't that be fun?

starting to think more about how I might be able to retire out to the natural world or partially natural world someday; getting to be like a party where you stayed too long
but in the meantime no complaints; weather is good this weekend for late september and will get a chance to run some fresh gas through something

I get what you're saying, but I won't condemn these folks for trying.
It shows some degree of entrepreneurship, even if you don't buy into their schtick, their messaging, or their belief system.
And those that earn any appreciable income from the ads, which only occur with a very high number of subscribers and views, are quite rare. While those who can make an actual living at it, are even more extremely few and far between, and even those are usually supplemented by product sales, corporate sponsorships (again, usually only after reaching a certain level of viewers / subscribers), public appearances, or other means.
There are not many Itchy Boots out there.
At least it doesn't harm anyone (assuming you're not outright lying or giving false information), as opposed to actively selling inferior products, extorting people, or any of the other unlimited ways that exist to take advantage of others.
At least this way, all one has lost is the minutes / hours they elect to subject themselves to any particular creator's content.
So, other than the time spent, the viewer is not out of pocket for anything.
And goodness knows, there are plenty of ways we can choose to waste our time.

Yes he has gone overboard with his enthusiasm for the ST1300. Don't get me wrong I loved my 92 ST1100 (10 years 85k miles) and my 03 ST1300 (12 Years 130K miles) but I think my 2014 FJR tops those two bikes (12 years 66k miles) My FJR has only had to replace the fork seals. It is easer to do maint on, for me at least. Each to his own (Ride what you like and like what you ride.) Thanks for the coffee STooRay.

Morning Stu & All from sunny, Southern Utah!

Currently it is 66F, up from 51F and heading for 80F. A slight breeze now, but later, the winds will be out of the SSW @ 16 to 28mph. According to the weather guessers, we might get hot with some heavy rains on Monday & Tuesday from that hurricane off the coast of Baja. According to them, we could see .75" of rain. We'll see.

The fridge is out of control, once again. This thing is driving me nuts! Also the heater doesn't want to turn on, until I throw the breaker and turn it back on. So I'm sure I'm looking at a couple big bills! Oh joy!

No idea what's in store for the day.

Once Chris wakes, we'll get some breakfast. I think I'll talk her into using her new grill and throw some pancakes on it, to test it out. Pepsis have been moved back into a cooler, while the 24 year old garage fridge is serving as our fridge for now, again!

10 and sunny outside currently, headed to 20. I slept in late as I didn't go to bed until after 1:30.

A nap could be on the books, but likely won't.

I did help a neighbour yesterday who texted me asking if I had any male RCA jacks for his new stereo. The speaker output is RCA (odd, but OK) and his speakers are bare wire spring terminals. Our local go to electrical place said they don't carry RCA jacks, so he figured he'd ask me before buying online. Well, yes, I do... professional grade, a dozen packs of two. $50 a pair retail, neighbour price: free.. They have a longer spring loaded ground shield that makes contact before the signal tip, avoiding that static "pop" that happens.



I also found a bunch of other new in the box items I forgot I had and a bunch of used stuff. Mrs. Obo says I might have a bit of a hoarding issue..... but when she needs something I usually have it. Other times she's said she's about had it with me. *shrugs and grins*

Good morning all and thanks for the coffee Stu! I think the meaning to your picture is you got there at the right time.

77 and raining, nothing out of the ordinary. Our visiting hurricane parked itself 140 miles due South last night, like a motorcycle waiting for an uncooperative traffic signal. The satellite view indicates it may have a green light now, cause I think it's heading West. So far the weather at my location has been uneventful.

Geez Mark, is your keyboard water cooled? That was a two cupper.
