Need to replace my RF1000.

Lots of reviews of the Qwest say nice helmet but very noisy.

The HJC FG17 seems to be a good, more affordable replacement for a RF.

Any voices of experience here with these two?

I have the Qwest & I like it.....but, I will not buy another. The liner is NOT removable. You might be okay with that, but I like to have the option to remove & wash mine. As for the noise, I think mine is fairly quiet. It does make a little noise when the top air vent is open.

I have the Qwest coming from an Arai and I like it. It gave me a widen field of vison and I think it is just as quiet as the Arai. I have only owned Arai or Shoei so I can not compare to anything else. Just make sure you get your helmet fitted properly, there are a lot of people riding around with over sized helmets. Good luck!

I have the HJC IS17 and love it. Really like the flip down shield. Had a CL17 but after accident and sliding 150 feet on my back, helmet did its job but no longer useable. Hopefully I'll be seen with this new one and won't get rear ended again!

Going from a Shoei to an HJC may not be satisfying to you. Since Shoei brought out the RF1200 the prices on the RF1100 have dropped considerably. It doesn't have the drop down shield, the RF1200 does. I have a Neotec with the drop down shield, it's really not that big a deal, and it's not dark enough. The RF1100 is one of the quietest I've experienced. I'll be in the market for another Shoei next year, probably RF1200.

Buddy of mine who used to be a Shoei guy just got new HJC's a 17 and a Sy-Max 3 modular and he loves them both. In particular he can't quit saying out noce the 17 is. I haven't had a Shoei in 30 years so I can't comment on them, but I have open face, 3/4, full face, and Modular HJC's and find them adequate. I don't get too hyped up about helmets like some people. They are hard on the outside, and comfortable enough on the inside. That's all I ask of them. My younger brother has a Qwest and likes it a lot.

I've had a Shoei Qwest for 3 years now. For me it's a quiet helmet and fits great; I have no problems listening to music at 75 MPH. I do wish for more airflow, but that'll probably create more noise.

My previous helmet was a Nolan 103 which was loud; I had to wear ear plugs with it. The shape and modular design created the noise.

Fit has a lot to do with a noisy or quiet a helmet. Manufactures tend towards head shape. For me Arai fits to tight along the temples while the Bells I tried fit to loose at the temples.

I clean the Qwest by removing the cheek pads and dunking the helmet with fixed liner in a bucket with a mild soap and warm water that won't affect the inner foam part of the helmet. I use the REI laundry soap for sleeping bags and sports equipment.

Very true Dave. Gonna be trying some on for fit. I seem to always fall directly in between sizes with lots of stuff.

Yea, but not sure Shoei quality is worth upwards of 2-3X the cost, as it has in the past. HJC looks pretty good. Few sizes left anywhere for the 1100.
No interest in the internal sun shields.

Me too, with Woolite.
