Side panels. What do you use to hold them on

Obviously there is the big ass allen/hex screw at the bottom and the the push pins that locate the panel into the rubber bushings on the frame, BUT what do you use for that little hole just below the saddle. My bike has a panel push pins with a screw down its center. I'm thinking Dzus fastener or maybe nothing?

Of the three screws that hold that panel on only two are the same dimensions. The shoulder lengths are different to allow the fastener to securely hold the panel without squishing it. The proper screws must be used in the proper locations to prevent damaging the panel.

1-If the threads have not been stripped procure and install the correct fastener to eliminate the possibility of cracking your fairing using the wrong fastener.
2-If the threads are stripped repair them to restore them to the original thread size and return to #1 above.

Not sure what you mean by

There are three - the lower one is the one that the rubber of the saddlebag/pannier seats against. It has a 6mm thread.
The one near to the silver frame at the front is a 5mm thread, and the one that secures the side panel to the rear cowl is also a 5mm. That screws into a thread on a metal clip.

'Big Ass screw' sounds more like the one that is used on the 1100 - except that is a cross head socket.

In my experience 4 out of 4 of those top edge rear joints have failed at the plastic - and they are the only ones that have failed on my bikes. Not as a result of wrong screws, or overtightening. They just seem to break. I tried to repair, but both of my bikes have spent the vast majority of their life not connected together at all. Hidden by the bottom of the pillion seat. In fact only the other day I found nut, metal clip and broken red plastic in my parts tin.

Never tighten these bolts much - they seem to be tighter when you take them off, than they are when you put them on. Just until they meet resistance, and a tiny nip more.

The above link (download the pdf) tells you what screws / fastenings go where , shows you what they look like and gives the part numbers - although it doesn't mention the side panel.

Sorry everyone. Wrong forum, should be ST1100
This should be what your looking for. Should be 6mm push pin rivet. You can get them at any auto parts store. On the bottom back of the cover there should be a long stem that pushes into a rubber grommet, that stem sometimes beaks off of the panel. My old ST had one side missing when I bought the bike it stayed that way for years.1769692136612.png1769692738239.jpg1769692767270.jpg

Part number is 90683GR1003 - but any push pin with the correct diameter will do the job - it just has to spead itself wider than the hole when the pin is pushed in.

I wondered why I had so many of these in my spare fittings tin ! - its been about 18 years since I parted with my last ST1100.

Yep...
and if you carefully use a designated JIS #2, those pins last for many years too...
