ST 1300 seats, gel pads, cushions, lambs wool.

I bought a pair of the $75 Moto Skiveez padded motorcycle shorts, but they were a total waste of money for me. Wore them a couple of times now they are languishing in a drawer in my motorcycle room. Also tried a gel cushion, was real squishy, and felt unstable while cornering, gave that to a fellow rider from Chicago while we were at a motorcycle rally in NC.

Good idea....but I'm not big on confining the boys.

I went through 'that' also.
I even have an original ST1100 Saddleman Travelcade gel set when they were considered 'custom' seats (had a metal base instead of plastic).
It came with a free 'bun burner' if you left it out in the sun for a period of time! ;)
For all of the money I spent 'trying' stuff I spent over half of the price of a RDL.
On my two trips to Russell, I had a few conversations with them about seats and seat construction.
What I came away with was quite simple - Any type of foam, gel, etc. will compress over time and that applies pressure in unpleasant places, causing discomfort.
IIUC, the RDL remedies this with their seat 'spring' which is patented and cannot be copied.
But also remember that seat preference can be like mattress preference - some like a soft mattress, some like a firm mattress.
IMO, RDLs tend to the 'soft' side, Corbins tend to the 'hard' side.

Should this 60 something year old man try a gel pad, lambs wool, a cushion or just replace the seat on my 2012 ST 1300?
Has anyone had any luck with adding to a seat or should I just bite the bullet and replace it?
Wear a pair of padded cycling shorts under you pants. Way cheaper and works wonders. Got this tip from some IBA riders!

Just did another ten hour ride about 450 miles, I picked this up for a week ride to Michigan, I also took my stock seat cover off and shaved down the foam once more , at 72 years young no complaints from my backside, best part only cost $33 on amazon
