ST1100 Cambelt Idler Bearing

Hello all,
Im planning the next cambelt change , and although the idler was ok last time, id like to change it. Problem is the price! I was thinking of buying a used one and fitting a new bearing in it, if thats possible? Anyone tried this, or got any info?

I have never tried this, but it is apparently possible if you can access a press and get the proper sized bearing. My brother did it to his Subaru’s drive belt idler that was making some noise. I just looked it up on Partzilla- the idler is $112 US and is available in 200-210 days!!!! I guess that means it’s coming from Japan, so your idea has merit if you can’t one quickly.

Chances are Partzilla cannot get one is the reason for the 200-210 days (seen that before).
Like the water pump and timing belts they are getting hard to find.
Let us know if you can source a bearing and get it to work.
You might check CMSNL, David Silver Spares or Fowlers on your side of the pond.
 
I recently did this to the serpentine belt tensioner pulley on my truck. Took it off and the bearing specs are stamped in to it. Took it to a bearing shop where they matched it up and sold me a replacement for about $10.00. Replaced it using a couple of sockets and a bench vise as a press. New tensioner assembly was well over $130.00 if I remember correctly.
