Yes. You're right, there are those who say that and surprisingly I've already exemplified it... this table is only for 5th gear... I have to do it for the 4th...Looks about the same as mine. I found out , trying to keep up with my buddy, that it used less staying around 3200-3500 rpm (4th gear) ,compared to being lazy ,driving smooth in the top gear (70-90 kmh).
