I have a problem with a lot of buffeting around my head when riding at speeds above 45 mph. Although I've not looked into it closely yet I believe that my windscreen is the standard size. I understand that I can get one about one and a half inches taller, would this help?

Cheers
Kevin

G' day fellow australian st1100 rider. I have an 'Eagle Screens' fitting on my bike. These seem to be the screen of choice and are available in a variety of heights and with various options. The fit is only ok as opposed to Honda perfect. Do a google search and even have a talk to them about the size you need. They can tell you how to measure what will be the most effective for you.

I have a tinted 20" Rifle screen on my ST1100 and it seems to have eliminated most of the buffeting around my head. The fit was perfect and the new screen looks as good or better than stock. I am 5'-10" and have no problem seeing over the top of the screen. I have included a photo of the stock and new Rifle screens.

I don't know what's available in Oz, but in the US there are a number of different aftermarket choices. Height is one factor, and might help, but overall shape and the angle of the shield make a big difference, too.

Unfortunately, there's no simple answer, as the best shield seems to depend on the rider's height, seat height (if you have an aftermarket seat), handlebars, and maybe more. Regarding the advice below, note that I'm about 5'8" in height, but had much higher that stock handlebars. But if you're significantly taller results might be different.

The shield that I liked best on my 1100 was the Laminar Combo shield:

I've also had good luck with Clearview shields, which are available in multiple heights:

Thanks all

Aussiexs, what height screen did you get? I emailed Eagle Screens Australia who responded with an email outlining all the various sizes. 420mm is the standard, next is 500mm which would be about the same as what Malks mentioned (20"), then there are 2 more sizes 545mm & 570mm the later recommended for touring which is what I intend using my ST for.

Cheers

Hi all
I am just about to go touring for a couple of days and will measure the screen and with luck post a picture when I return

Hi Kevin
I reckon I have got the tallest one plus 'ears' that push the wind wider as well as eyes cut in the sceen. It is important that you sit on the bike and work out what height screen you can see over. I did this by using cardboard and sliding it uo to a point that was just below eye level and then comparing it to the heights that eagle make. It is a huge improvement over the original screen.

Hello from Milton Keynes.I fitted a Rifle screen to my -95 ST1100and it is a vast improvement on the standard screen, perfect fit and keeps off the English weather a treat! On a 2000 mile round trip to Czech Republic in wet and windy conditions it was a boon, top of screen should be no higher than your nose.I am 6' tall.

There are two strategies on screens:
1) barn doors;
2) Laminar.

I chose Laminar:

AGREED. I've tried all the various barn doors, including a Clearview plus a Lip. At last count, I've had 4 different screens on the ST1100. The Laminar screen is the best by far.

The larger barn door screens do an equal job of elminating buffeting, but they affect the handling of the bike. The Laminar screen seems to cut through the wind easily, while eliminating buffeting. My rear passenger is also happy.

My rear passenger is also happy.

...and *that* is the recommendation I was looking for!

I've been OK with the stock screen for myself, but I know my wife would appreciate something a little gentler. I reckon I'll get the laminar lip type chappie some time before we go off around europe (some time next year, I reckon!)

Cheers & God bless
