I need help solving a problem with my ST1300 brake light. Over the years, a cruise control, and wires for the trunk light, have been added on to the wiring for the left-side brake light.

Some time back, someone posted about a flashing LED lamp that was a direct replacement in the 13. I bought one but could never get it work right. I'm pretty sure the presence of the cruise control is confusing the circuitry in the LED lamp.

Anyway, as part of fiddling with trying to get the LED lamp to work, I've damaged the wiring harness. So the left lamp no longer works, and consequently the cruise control and the trunk lights no longer work.

The stop lamp socket and rear turn signal socket is Honda part number 33720-GZ9-003. The wiring harness has a black plastic connector with 3 wires that slide into this connector and lock into place. The connector then attaches to the socket. See the attached picture, the black connector is highlighted. The socket is not shown.

I need to get the wires out of this connector so I can repair them and then slide them back in. But after literally hours, I can't figure out the trick to removing the wires. I'm also willing to destroy the connector if necessary to get the wires out, but I haven't found a part number for a replacement. I don't need the socket; it is fine. Just the connector that attaches to the wiring harness.

Anyone know the trick to getting the wires out of the connector? Barring that, anyone know where I can get another connector?

I'm not sure what the connector looks like, but the bike uses hitachi connectors elsewhere. Eastern Beaver sells these as do other vendors - do a search on this website for 'electrical connectors' , 'hitachi connectors, 'electrical connectors'. The Hitatchi's use a mini spade type connector that snaps into the plastic housing. If you look at the pictures of these online, you will see the male and female fittings, and perhaps the tiny prongs that latch in place. I seem to remember that EB may have sold a needle like pick (like a dental pick - the one they use to measure the depth of pockets in your gum/tooth area) that you push in to release the metal spade.

This is the tail/brake light connector:

I have no idea how the terminal is locked into the connector. Most have a barb that sticks up like that if a stingray. Using a very thin stiff of metal shim try going into the connector from the front (opposite the wired end of the terminal) and see if you can compress the barb if there is one.

That's worked for me on other 'flat' terminals. I don't know if there is a removal tool to work on that.

If you look carefully at the pic posted by ST Gui, just below the two 'arms' pointing upward, and on the back of the female (what I call) spade connector there is a barb stamped out of the metal and pointing downward to the background. This barb is what has to be depressed to remove the spade from the plastic.

Removing the spade from the wire, once it has been properly crimped, however, is no easy task. You might be able to spread the spade's fingers using an ice pick and pliers (to hold it), but be careful.
