Hi

Anyone successfully tried upgrading the front ABS ring on the 2005-2007 model to the updated 2008-2011 models ABS rings?

What parts were used?
New ABS ring
ABS Sensor
Can use back ABS wiring?
ABS ECU compatible?

Yes am aware of the correct gaps between the ABS rings and the sensors.

Thanks for any information in advance.

I've never tried it, but besides the rings being different, so are the front sensors and the Electronic controller.

So I have no idea, even if you changed all three, if it would work. The best you can do is try it and let us know if it works or not.

I'm sure that you could find pictures of both. I suspect that the number of slots from 2008 and later model is different from the number of castellations on the pre 2008 models.

But the caliper bracket that holds the sensor is also different and that is partly because the calipers and brakes are different, but also because the sensor is different.

I'm finding reasons to avoid the actual question - because I don't know the answer. But even if the answer was that one can be used in place of the othe,r all of the other issues then become relevant. I do know that the two rings - castellated and slotted steel - both share the same mounting holes.

But I have a different question. Are you asking because your ABS isn't working ? I have never had the ABS kick in on either of my ST1300s A6 or A9 - except to test them. The mechanical systems and my riding seem not to require it.

Rebuilding the bike so thinking of modernizing it with the newer parts if it isn’t too much of a hassle.

Thanks for all the replies.

Right. Then you would need both front calipers, both caliper brackets, both front pads, pad springs, and pad retainer pins, new brake hoses for all 4 that connect to the calipers, pulsar ring and a new ECU / ABs unit. My experience from one of each variations from new is that they are tuned differently - later versions having greater pulling power at low revs.

The front outer pistons in the pre 2008 models are slightly smaller than the models from 2008. Whether that means that the master cylinder piston has also changed, I do not know. The master cylinder service kit has a different part number and the whole assembly changed from 2008 - so maybe.

I do not know whether the ECU requires different sensors in other places. Maybe not. You’d have to check part numbers.

It sounds expensive to me .
