Article [13] ST1300 - Clutch Replacement

From your description, it sounds like you may be hearing the counter balance adjusters out of adjustment.
This would make alot more sense than your clutch bearings etc.
Also, do you have any coolant leaks? If coolant is spewing out the overflow tube below the front of the lower cowl you may have lost your water pump mechanical seal or bearing.
This would also sound like a high pitch noise if the prop were hitting the cover etc.

No water leaks, never had to replenish the overflow tank. Checked the settings on the balance shafts three times already, so I don't think that's the issue. The motor sounds great. Adjusted according to manual. The water pump bearing sounds like a candidate. Still require a teardown to check that though. Thanks for your response.

Hi Larry, finally took the water pump out. Was surprised how difficult it was to turn the impeller. From the spindle side a fair bit of effort was used to rotate it. Turning the impeller side was also very stiff. Upon inspection of the seals, they were rock hard and looked as if they had suffered from really high temperature, they were blistered.

I have questions for the collective here. My 2014 which is an ex city police bike has only 50,000 miles on it. Once I bought it I changed the oil. I used what I thought was correct motorcycle oil purchased at wally mart. After a while, as I don't drive it often I noticed the clutch not grabbing while entering the freeway. Under light load it's just fine and gets me around the city fine, but if I want to get "On it" it slips. I did change out the oil to factory Honda oil (Honda Pro GN4 Motor Oil 10W-30) but it still slips.
After posting on here the milage you suggested ether bleed the clutch or replace the slave cylinder of which I did. Still slipping. So now I'm looking at just replacing the clutch pack. My question is which parts are recommended? PArtzilla clutches or is there an aftermarket company that sells the kit? I also have

I had the same problem with another motorcycle that I used to own. Slippage was caused by using the wrong type of oil. After the slippage started I changed the oil several times at much lower intervals than normal in an attempt to flush the additives from the previous oil out of the clutch plates. I caught the problem early and took corrective action quickly. I don't know if that makes a difference but in my case doing this worked. The clutch stopped slipping and it was still working fine tens of thousands of miles later when I got rid of the motorcycle.

I have no idea if there is something that can be added to the oil that might help flush the clutch pack. Maybe someone one here can help with that. Things like Marvels Mystery Oil, Sea Foam etc.. If you only changed the oil once since the slippage started you might try doing another one or two oil changes to see what happens.
