I'm a new ST owner(Since April) and very impressed with this forum. I've gathered a lot of useful information over the last few months so I thought it was time to make a posting.

I've seen several write-ups on how to install the Heli-Bar risers on the ST1300 but I think a few pictures are worth a thousand words so I've attached a few pictures. :D

I thought the install was fairly simple. The only comment I have is that a rug or blanket over the fuel tank during the install is a must. I used an old rug and it worked great.

Dano,

Nice job! Thanks for the pics..maybe doing this myself soon.
No issues with alls the cables being long enough??

Plenty of room on the cables, just be sure to re-install the front cable guide the same way it came off. No need to remove the guides nearest the fuel tank since the wires just slide out. :D

Thanks for the digital assist!

Just wanted you to know how helpful the pictures were. A lot of these installation directions drive me nuts because I don't actually know what certain little parts are called. So, I have been quite dependent on the kindness of others to help me find my way. Such was also the case for the topbox. So, thanks for taking the time and going to the bother of putting out some helpful pictures. That bolt on the underside was a bear if you don't have just the right tools, but we got 'er done!

Thanks, again. :D

You know I think the Helibar ones are shaped different than Larry's because I have to route all my wiring coming down the handlebars to the outside of the risers or they get pinched between the risers and the tank in a full turn.

I installed mine in about an 45 minutes. I didn't have any issues at all with wiring. My only feedback is that the key is recessed now and you can't add too many jangles on the chain or things will get bent.

My installation took about 1.5 hours and my handle bars got scratched because my 14 year old was insistant about helping. (He has also sucessfully ripped the tabs off of both inspection covers. Now I have a matching set.)
But, he's learning?

I'd like to say thanks for the pictures Dano! I just put my riser plate on and it was easier thanks to your pictures? My wife wants to know if you have any pictures that would get me off the ST and onto a ladder to paint the house. Pleaes say no!! LOL!!

Looking at the third photo with the top clamp stripped of the handlebars and underlying bracket; Would the two large holes remaining accept risers for a conventional tubular handle bar? Has anyone tried this?

Just fitted mine today with the help of a friend - 30 mins - no sweat - and what a difference!

:bow1: Great service also - received in the UK within 5 days of ordering and saved ?50 (about $90) off the UK price :D

Got mine in today. Took me about 45 minutes, including a couple of breaks (still hot down here) Didn't have any problems, but got worried when I couldn't get the first handlebar allenbolt loose on the first try. Decided to get a good rachet and extension with a allen socket out of the workshop, and they came loose. Don't try this with a regular angled allen wrench. Other than that, no problem. Finished it up by screwing the one inch ram ball in the top plate. (I ordered it with the helibar as a hint to my wife for what is needed next) Took it for a good spin. What a difference. Finally I don't put weight on the bars any more, and the riding position is a lot more comfortable.

I am curious about you guys that have installed the risers How tall are you and what is your sleeve length? I am 6'0" with a 34" sleeve length. I don't seemed to have a problem with the riding position but I have always wondered if I would be more comfortable with the change.

Robert

Holy Smoke,,,,34 inches sleeve length.

I am 6'2". Length from armpit to wrist is 25". The riser enable me to sit more upright, avoid putting weight on the handlebars. It also got rid of the neckpain due to my riding angle.

If you are comfortable then don't make the change. I was too hunched over and it hurt my neck, back and wrists on long rides. I don't have that problem any more with the risers.

May I ask, did you have to remove all the controls from the bars or did you leave them on and just reattach after the riser was installed? Did you need a torque wrench or any other special tools. thank so much, Doug
