I’m looking at replacing both locks on my panniers as they can be opened with any key. So not very secure.
I was looking at a local supplier Radionics for there version of the tumbler lock. There are different sizes.
Has anyone ever replaced these with non generic locks.
What are the recommendations.

Why can they be opened with any key?

It is up to you but a lot of us (me included) take a ST Key cut it off and mount it in knob and leave them in the panniers all the time. I have never had an issue with theft and I have been doing that for years. I do park at night in a secure area.

Looks like the photos are dead but here is a link.

This link is for info on disassembling the panniers. I was thinking there might be a better image of the lock to see if those might fit. Maybe it will help though.

Looks like the barrels are damaged, that’s why they open on any key. I reckon they were forced before I owned the bike. I found that link to cut the key and mount a knob on top of it. I need new locks first before I consider doing that. Thanks for the info though.

Since you are looking at a different key anyhow. What about looking on eBay and picking up a set of used locks? Not sure if a locksmith could rekey them to match your existing key or not or go with the different key/knobs. They show up all the time on auctions here in the US for bikes getting parted out for pretty cheap. I don't know that the ignition switch would work for you as we don't have HISS on the US bikes but you are only after the Pannier locks anyhow. It would take the guess work out of if they would fit or not.

I think this is the seat and pannier locks with one key. They ship worldwide.

EDIT: I don't think these are the pannier locks. They are probably the seat and then the two locks that secure the panniers to the bike. Not sure if they are interchangeable with the parts you would have from removing your failed locks. I guess you could take yours apart and see.

Probably easier to find a wreck/salvaged ST. The locks will have to be re-keyed to work with your ignition, but the overall fit will be accurate.

I think that is his problem right now. His complaint is that any key will open them.
They need replacing, so I am looking at a suitable replacement. I’ve taken the lock out of the pannier and measured it. The hunt begins. I will update this thread if I get a non generic replacement.

Least expensive / simplest fix would probably be to purchase a set of used pannier locks and install them, as others have already suggested.

If you can live with having different keys, you could do the work yourself (not complex), your only cost would be parts. If you don't get a key with the used locks or you want to have the locks operate with your ignition key, take the used locks to a locksmith before you install them and have them modified to operate with your key.

OOOPS OK if they can already be opened with any key then someone may have taken the wafers out ( or it has been raked ) in which case any locksmith should be able to rekey to the ignition assuming the barrel is ok
