My son is getting a high milage 2004 ST1300(210 K miles) this week. We plan on servicing it with new plugs and an oil change. Since Kragan/O'Reillys has their synthetic oil on sale at this time, I have been thinking about putting some in his ST, since I am running 5W-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic in mine with no problems.
However, the Kragan/O'Reillys synthetic apparently only comes in 2 weights, 5/30 and 10/30. Will the 10/30 oil be okay?

10w-30 is what is recommended in the handbook, although the service manual says 10w-40 !

I use 10w-30 most of the time - although I had 10w-40 for a while when I was trying to cure a pinging in Summer when the engine was hot.

Use API Service SG or higher, but
Don't use Energy Conserving oils (see the round API label on the container).

The 03 manual recommends 10w-40 for averages temperatures above 80? F.
10w-30 if it doesn't regularly get that warm.
Newer years may have changed that.

Many here use 5w-40.

The energy conserving in the bottom API round logo types are not recommended for wet clutches as the friction modifier in it could make the clutch slip.

Honda changed the recommendation for street bikes including the ST1300 from 10w40 to 10w30 after the 2006 model year with no apparent changes other than print in the owners and service manuals. Either would be fine for temperate climate use just stay away from Energy Conserving or Resource Conserving labeled oils.
