home and office coffee-shots consumed... :coffee:

GF opted going to work today, insisted on taking a cab in ze morning, also insisted to take the city rail in the afternoon...
Will have to pick her up from the station though (its like a mile from my place... quite a hike on crutches...)
We intend her trying to drive her Skoda Octavia automatic this weekend... we'll see how that goes... :unsure:
General plan is that she's back at the office full roster next week; would be ideal if she can drive then...
Also likely that she rather stays at her place, closer to work...

Office, dull... just wasted an hour on research on a not standard product/manufacturer regarding hotel room key-card/occupancy switch solution...
Seems that this MFG features such only with a central controller which you'd have to BMS across every single room...
So no simple, local, hence affordable solution there...
Also interesting that while the original construction plans were issued in June, our client "rang in" just this Wednesday with a deadline for today... pfffff...
Typical... its only a 5 stories hotel... no big deal... nah... sure, system layouts done in 5 minutes or so... :cautious:

And like to mock me the state pension dept mailed me their annual account/forecast, with a nice advertisement:

"Work just 3 years longer and receive 1000,-/month extra!"

Right, work till 68... damn, they're getting serious with this crap... :cautious:
Interestingly only mailed to me/folks in the trades... seems their speculating on the shorter live expectancy of those in hard/manual labor...
Ze GF, employed as a city official desk-drone, did not receive that "generous offer"... that much about equality... ;)
Well, we'll have to see... general situation, progressive inflation, etc... all comes into play...

This afternoon we’ll be driving to Bergen for the weekend, it’s a 3,5 hour drive.
There’s a yellow warning for icy roads, heavy snowfall turning into sleet and rain, quite canadian…

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee Martin. I hope ze GF doesn't rush back to work only to undo the progress she's made.

It's 42°F and just starting to be less dark thanks to the late sunrise time (0658) coupled with cloudy / overcast skies. The high will be maybe 55 and the sky will be cloudy all day, with the sun setting at 1650 and chances of rain starting around 2100 hours. In short, another cheerless, dreary late autumn day, made tolerable (perhaps) by a round of goof with my neighbor.

She says she was just exhausted after all the work of organizing last week's uke gathering and needed a rest break, but I took the uke group leader's absence yesterday as an unannounced test drive for the new guy; a chance for me to sort of step in to the leadership role unheralded and without raising expectations, as it were, as we won't make the actual announcement for a couple more weeks and nobody else is aware that the conversation has even taken place.

We'll have dinner tonight with our financial advisor and his wife. We took care of the business aspect in a phone call on Monday so this is a purely social occasion, made possible by the fact that he chanced firms (and we with him) in August, to one that has more money available for such customer relation-building frills. Of course we're paying for it indirectly through the (higher than the previous firm) management fees but hey, it's nice to be treated well.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

It's cloudy and 24 in MA this morning, rising to 46, later.
It's 30 with light snow in Plattsburgh, NY, rising to 42 with more off and on snow predicted.
That's where we'll be, later today.

Yesterday, I made it to the gym, and after a mid-day nap, took our neighbor's dog for a 5 mile hike in the Outback.
She only went swimming twice, along the hike.

We'll be on our way to visit with our daughter and her husband this morning.
Our neighbor has volunteered to feed our cat while we're away, but she won't get her ice cream or ice water. It's something that we do for her, but we won't burden our neighbor with that.

Our small and growing company has only 4 criteria for new clients: annual revenue, time in business, employee count, and the last - but most important - don't be an a$$hole.
Helps to keep us sane, so we can do better work for our customers.
Cloudy and rainy is the call for today, so we'll take the car for the first time in a week.

I woke up in the Twilight Zone this morning. Fog so thick, that my neighbors have vanished and they’re only 50 yards away. I can’t see the end of my driveway, which causes quite a conundrum . Do I risk walking outside, to only get lost in my front yard, or finish my coffee and go back to bed until things clear. Since it 62 out, I’m going for the walk.

We're dealing with a general contractor there, not the hotel corp...
Likely that deal is already "set" anyway, but by law they're required to collect 3 alternative offers...
Which explains the trap being set, rarely that any bidder will be able to put together a 'technically equal' offer in such a short amount of time...
Dunno if my offer statement is fully 'technically equal', but by adding everything they'd omitted in their initial request, its definitely realistic...
Pipe runs, pipe headers, valve kits, rates on brazing gasses and nitrogen, installation material, control cabling, room controllers, central controllers... we've nothing to give away for free...

Whom we might drop like a hot potato in the foreseeable future, is DHL...
Dealt with them in the past (installed equipment even up in Germany) but now you now have to subscribe to their dubious supplier portal, download +20 forms about supply chain laws, laws against child labor, diversity policies, sign various gag-contracts, accept their payment terms (like 60 days net...), and further also enlist your company at some weird online platform/group with significant annual fees... doubt that the boss-man will go for that... I wouldn't, we're in Austria, bound to our local terms of business, regulations and legislation...

In Canada that used to simply be referred to as winter, even when it all happened in the same day. Now it seems that a warning of some kind has to be issued for every little change that happens within 50 miles of your location. Soon they will be issuing warnings that there is a sun-rise on the horizon, followed by another warning of an impending sunset. The result of having (to many) warnings is it seems that the opposite of the assumed goal is being achieved- the warnings increasingly get ignored.
 
Morning Martin & All from another overcast skies in Southern Utah!

Currently it is 40F, up from 36F and heading for 48F. No breeze as yet, but later the winds will be out of the NNW @ 7 to 8mph. No rains in sight. And, according to my Weather App, our low temps are going lower, from here on out. Must be getting closer to Winter! o_O

Yesterday I talked to the gal about the WeSTOC hotel needs. I now have a contract to sign. Since I've never done anything like this, it should be interesting. And I also need to start working on the other aspects of it. :unsure-2x:

Today, I'm debating to go down to Costco and pick up another shelf. They are on sale until next week. And I really don't want to go down then. We'll see.

Chris isn't up yet, and we'll eat once she is. Pepsi(s) for later.

Martin, I feel your procurement blues from the owner's side.....

Drove to work today so I could bring the pup in for a little extra socialization. He's pretty skittish with strangers, which is part of the breed characteristics, but it never hurts to try and work it down a bit. So far he's alternating between guarding the office hallway and perusing out my office window. Vigilance above all!

The real truth....

Brought the dog to work with me today. The boss said I couldn't bring the dog in, so I had to tie her to a tree out front.
She wasn't impressed, but the dog sure seemed to enjoy guarding the office hallway and looking out my office window at her.....
