Today I took off on a ride without warming up the ST1300 until three bars were showing on the temperature gauge. At the start, outside temps were in the 40's, and only one bar was showing. Later the outside temps rose to the 50's and two bars were showing no matter how fast I went. Is this because I didn't warm up enough at the start, or could it be that my thermostat is failing to close enough to keep three bars showing? Has this happened to anyone else?

Hopefully, the dealer will replace my thermostat shortly and I'll be able to test it out.. whenever I get my bike back

The dealer actually asked if I'd put cardboard in front of the radiator and run with it blocking the wind... I said 'no, didn't think about that'...

Hi!

Noob here ...

I have to ask ... do allot of you wait for three bars when warming, or do like I do; pause for 30-45 seconds, then launch? :04biker:

I tried the search engine, and no joy. I've wondered about this since the beginning. I don't let my wifes car warm to full temp before operating, so why would I do it with my bike?

Any and all comments are welcome.

Nope, typically, I'm on it after a couple mins... some wait longer but I figure that's what the thermostat is for, recirculate the water until the bike is warmed up fully.... Mine is always in the garage so it warms up quickly, but never 3 bars before I launch unless it's summer and it heats up quickly.

Thanks, Mellow ... my thinking too.

I don't dog her, nice and easy till it hits 3B on it own.

I see you are in Dallas ... on March 4th, I'll be leaving orlando, heading for Houston, to turn around and head back.No good reason, just want to. :D

Thanks for taking a moment to respond. Be safe out there ...

Bill,

I just wait for 1 bar. That's enough to prove to me that the oil is circulating and has been warmed up enough to be fluid (lower viscocity). Usually takes a minute or 2 in California (55DegF), then I'm outta here. I'm too impatient to wait when it's motorcycle time! :)

Thanks, CruisingDog

I do the same; 1 bar, then ride. Cali is another state I want to visit. I'll be doing that trip next year, on my way around the four corners. ;)

Thanks again for the reply; be safe out there!
