Top Case Advice!

Capt.Bill

Need some advice on what top case for 2010 ST/ with back rest pad, Givi E450, E370,
or E470 or is there something else out there that works and looks as good as the Givi?

The OEM Honda topcase is the best looking and has the most comfortable backpad (IMO). Don't know if you can still get one from davidsilverspares UK or not though.
I use a Givi E460 that I've had since 1998 and it still looks and performs as new!

I've got an OEM topbox, but it's too small (compared to the Nonfango 852 on my TDM) so I'm looking to replace it, but can't find a large one with a white painted lid...
Any ideas anyone?

Thanks, that did help, but do you know if you also need a mounting bracket kit, and is the case easy to remove on regular base from bike. The case looks real nice on cycle. I have some intrest in the Shad.....
SH40 top case.

You can also snag the Sargent top case pad too...

Honda top case comes off with the turn of a key. Very easy and will swallow to helmets. Oh and it comes with all the mounting bits. My favourite pillion won't ride without it! Cheers Marty

Miami,I looked at the Shad cases and like them, they are priced right it seems and look good, but do you
know if you need any other mounting kit other than what comes with the cases. It looks like in the ad it
comes with all you need! Correct me if I am wrong but from what my dealer tells me Hondaline oem, is made by Givi? Thanks Guys for all the Help!! Capt.Bill

The Shad comes with a "generic" mounting bracket for it's case. Yes, Givi makes the Honda top box.

I tried a Shad before I went with a Givi. It was a nice case, but after getting everything together, I found the locking latch was broken... there was some other little nits I wasn't to happy with. I was able to return it for a full refund since it was damaged. I'm not so thrilled with my Givi either, the locking latch will not lock all the time, and when it does, sometimes you can just pull the lid open.

To me, even though the Honda case is made by Givi, it seems it had a better build quality... just something to think about.

Cap.Bill, I did my search before deciding with the Shad case, yes you need the mounting kit, they have one that is bike specific and is very easy to install, take a look at this link it may help you!

I guess SHAD is quite new in the US (2 years) but they know cases. SHAD is OEM for BMW bikes and check out the new Super Tenere by Yamaha, cases also made by SHAD. Can't go wrong I think? I read a very detailed article on SHAD on Webbikeworld, I do not have a link to it, but Google search it, the review came out with a perfect 5 star rating for SHAD.

Givi E52 for me and it matches my bike perfectly. My wife has never complained about it being uncomfortable against her back. I have the Admorelighting kit on it and I like it a lot. It never comes off except for repairs or something like that. And it's WAY cheaper than the Honda box :D

I recently bought a Shad sh46. I was going to get the sh50 but in pics it just looks too huge. I really like the older style 46 and I found one for dirt cheap.

I got it and the back pad for it. It's great and I used the generic mounting hardware that came. I had to drill 4 new holes and that was it. Now the whole box comes off in 2 seconds - and it holds two full faces with the intercoms hanging off the side of each and then some!

I love the latch. I can lock it or leave it unlocked and just latched. Which works out great because every time we stop my wife is popping it open and getting something out of her purse or a drink from a small cooler we usually keep back there.

I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Shad is quality stuff!

You must have gotten a bad GIVI. Mine is 13 years old. The latch/lock has never failed to work on mine.

I just bought a Givi V46. Love it. However, just took a 2000 mile trip and the bike seemed a bit unstable with the top box - a bit of fishtailing, a bit more sensitive to buffeting, and a bit more difficult to balance at less than 5 mph like in a traffic jam. I have a 2006 ST1300A. Anyone had the same issues, and, if so, any solution suggestions? The box has the ST1300 mounting kit and I only had about 20# of stuff in it. Tires at 42 pressure. One rider.

Question on that Shad Top Box, sorry after all these months, I still have not made up my mind, but you say you used the
mountng bracket that comes with the box, great! No other parts or brackets needed? Except for drilling new holes?
Is it strong and stable? Thanks for your help!

I have a Shad, and like it. The bracket is universal and strong. I've hauled tools home from work, and even filled it with ice to use as a cooler.
