my first trip using the tpg pants was to moto gp race in indy. the weather was as follows; 90 when we left louisiana, raining when we got to illinois and indiana, raining when we left through indiana and kentucky, and in the upper 50's in kentucky and tennesse. all i had underneath were ld shorts. the vents worked good in hot and my legs were not cold in the morning. it rained all day sunday at the races and on the way home. these pants are waterproof along with the pockets. the only thing the pants lack are a good fastening system for your waist. i like to wear my riding pants high so to resolve this i think next trip i will have suspenders. other than that the pants are awesome.:D
 
Thanks for the info! The new FirstGear stuff looks interesting, I have the HT 2 Overpants and like them alot.
 
From another thread about these pants - they have a mesh lining? Not that sticky feeling nylon stuff?

I'd really like a pair of do it all pants I can just wear over LD shorts from say 35 degrees up to not too hateful for a few hours occasionally at around 90 degrees.
 
I have the TPG's as well. Purchased in June and used most the summer, alternating with my Joe Rocket Mesh pants. Work well. Waterproof and very comfortable up to 85 deg days. between 85 and 90 It's OK. Above 90 it's the mesh pants all the way.

Great fit. Sized a little large. Never used the liner, instead preferring to wear jeans underneath so I can slip off the TPG's when off-bike.

Got them zippeed to a Denali Jacket. Overall I'm very happy with Firstgear.
 
on the trip to indy all i wore under the pants were ld comfort shorts and in the temerature ranges stated earlier they were very comfortable. it took me a long time to find pants like these because they do have the mesh inside instead of that sticky material. why havent all of the manufacturers figured that out?:biker:
 
Thanks - I have a pair of Icon mesh pants with the mesh lining (as mesh pants must have) and they are comfy. The solid pants I have are rainproof with the sticky lining and have to be worn over other pants to be comfortable. Way too warm when the temp gets over 70. When I travel I'd like one pair of pants that'll work reasonably well in 30 to 90 degree weather. Tough bill to fill. These TPG pants look to be among the best available now.

I ordered them in the 38 waist size I order in jeans. Got them last night a bit after 8 pm so no ride yet. They fit perfectly over shorts with the liner in - ought to be able to squeeze them on over jeans. With the liner out they have a enough extra room to wear as over pants. Over shorts they are a bit roomy but not to excess. I'm thinking that the extra room will let air from the thigh vents circulate a bit better. The mesh lining feels really comfortable. The removable thermal liner is the usual slick stuff.

I also ordered them in tall. I'm 6'2" with a 33 inch inseam. The size chart describes the 38 tall as having a 34 inch inseam. Seems longer and in socks I'm walking on the cuff. On the bike with boots that just cover my ankle the cuff rests just on top to slightly below the top of the boot. I'm thinking that these will not ride up over the top of the Tourmaster Solution boots I usually wear. That riding up over my boot top problem with my current pants was the reason I picked the tall size.

man i wish i got that deal! you will enjoy them. the vents on the thigh are nice in hot weather. i wish they would have offered my size (32) in tall. they are long enough but would'nt hurt being a little longer. good luck with them! i will test mine again this week as we are leaving louisiana for n.m.,col.,and wherever else we can squeeze in thursday-tuesday. :biker:

Most of the current FirstGear stuff has CE approved armor, and what doesn't can be easily upgraded. EXCEPT for the back pad. I've always liked FG stuff, good value for the price. But my newest mesh jacket is a Joe Rocket, because I could insert a good size EC approved back protector.
 
after a 3000+ mile run to colorado over the extended weekend here is what else i learned. i had to remove the kneepads on the third day because they started to aggravate me. this is because i had on ld shorts only and between the mesh inside and the kneepads rubbing i decided to remove them. this made all the difference. we rode through a lot of rain and dry as a bone. i also fixed the fastening system before i left and that worked perfect also. i added 1 1/2 inches on each side of the straps with more velcro and took a ball from a bearing and opened up the snap for the pants. anyway, could'nt be happier.:biker:
