Two Brothers packing replacement

stfwinn1

A question for riders with Two Brother exhaust in either the "C" or "M" style. They suggest on the web site to repack every 3000 miles.Has anyone had to repack,do you follow their suggestion, with the packing blown out can you damage the cans with too much heat?Do the pipes get louder if you don't replace the packing?I like the pipes but would like to avoid having to perform this procedure 2 or 3 times every riding season.

I don't have a set but have been looking. I am no expert about them, but man does every 3,000 miles sound like overkill! At a cost of about $25 each repack and the time involved sounds like a lot of maintenance.

I had Two brother C2 in Carbon Fiber on my Superhawk....15,000 miles on them when I traded it in....a look inside with a borescope showed only slightly browned packing material....and the CF was still cool enough to touch after the long ride to the dealer for the trade..:headbang:

Ironically, one of mys student's father works with one of the owners of Two Bros...on racing apps...

I was told that you can use steel wool to repack. They say it lasts longer too. I just wish I could keep mine sounding the way they do the first 10 minutes after I spray water in them.

I've had mine about a year with no difference in sound. Somewhere on their web site, I think it was in an "ask us" section, they explained the 3000 mile rule as extreme use. Since their pipes are meant for race use only, gentler, kinder use would result in longer life, just depended on your style or riding. I think I will be putting the stock pipes back on this year. I liked and noticed the weight savings, but I already own a Harley, and I just feel like I cheapened my ST.

That is why I went for the staintunes they look more finished than the 2 bros they are less noisy than the 2 bros and weigh about the same. I prefer the way the staintunes mount without the strap around them they just look better.( to me )

I have a Two Bros Hi Mount Ti slip-on for the VFR. I liked the looks, performance, weight saving, but that thing really boomed when splitting traffic on the way home from work. I ended up taking it off & going back to the stock muffler. I bought all of the repacking stuff also but never did it.

I really like a quiet bike better so I stay with the stockers on all my bikes.

+1, I think most folks probably don't bother to re-pack their TB pipes at 3k mile intervals, you'd have to do it in the middle of a trip to WeSTOC to follow that schedule! Letting them go I think is the main reason the TB pipes are considered by most to be louder than the StainTunes. I think the loudness probably increases slowly over time, making the change hard to notice by the owner.

StainTune packs their cans with a stainless steel wool that never needs to be re-packed. The stainless steel Borla cat-back system I have on my cage makes the same claims.

I suppose the thing to do would be to locate some of this stainless steel wool and re-pack your TB pipes with that. Alternatively just get the StainTunes and avoid all the hassle.

I had a TBR pipe on my '99 R1100GS and repacked it twice at 6k intervals. It really needed it, as the pipe got ridiculously loud after a while. I swapped it for a Staintune and it lasted until I sold the bike 18K miles later. Also I have 25K on a Staintune on my current '05 R1200GS and it has performed flawlessly.

I will definitely go Staintune on my ST after a few more pressing farkles are added. Got the hyperpro suspension components on the way, thanks Sal! :bow1:
