The very unfortunate update I have is that Uncle Phil had a deer jump the guardrail and strike him and Blue Belle last night near Jamestown NY on the way to his motel. Speaking to his wife Sharyn a few minutes ago I understand he was taken to UPMC Chautauqua hospital with a "new" broken rib and bruised knee and the state police said Blue Belle was totaled. Sharyn and her sister-in-law will be one their way to NY later this afternoon. Sending prayers for their safe travels and Uncle Phil's healing.

Kristie and I called the hospital and talked to Phil. He is tough, hit deer at 75mph, left hand injured (glove came off during roll and slide), rt kneecap cracked, rt # 7 rib broken. He said the airbag vest deployed and his injuries would likely have been much worse without it, the #7 rib was probably below the vest coverage. He did not have a concussion.

Thanks for the update. So sorry to hear about this but thankfully he was wearing his vest.
 
There is a road near me I ride on frequently. Not to long ago I was driving my truck home at night doing about 45 mph in a 55 specifically because of the deer problem. And still a running deer jumped out of the brush and hit my truck, damaging the drivers side front fender. It could easily have happened while riding my bike.

I’m sorry to hear about this happening to Uncle Phil.
