Uncle Phil hit a deer

I'm often asked why pay so much for an airbag vest not knowing if it will work in a crash. I reply I hope I don't find out if it does or not. I'm sorry you had to find out about yours but am relieved and happy knowing yours did it's job. Take it easy and get well quickly UP!

Well, what's left of me just landed back in the Holler.
Left hand evidently was dragging behind and ripped the glove off during the long slide.
It's pretty much 'skint toast' but nothing appears to be broken.
Right knee was the size of a volleyball, now it's the size of a softball.
Left knee swollen some.
Both ankles are sprained and feet are badly bruised so walking is a bit challenging even with a walker.
Deer came from under the guard rail so I didn't see it until it was too late - not even a second to put on the brakes.
Don't know if I hit it or it hit me but it's dead and I am not!
On the slab doing 75mph from best I can tell.
Was conscious for the entire slide thinking 'Is this never gonna end?'
Bluebelle took out two guard rail posts so she is toast.
Destroyed my glasses, laptop, cameras, CPAP, GPSs and pretty much anything of value.
Kevin R. was so very gracious to pick up the motorcycle remains and hold it until I can get it.
Without the Lord, Hit-Air vest that saved my torso/my neck, my helmet that saved my head, and gear I was wearing, I would not be here typing this.
The entire hospital staff and roadside workers were astonished that I never lost consciousness and did not have to be air-flighted to a trauma center.
I will not be able to ride for quite a while as the time it will take to heal and resolve the severe bruising will be lengthy.
So I will have to cancel out of quite a few events until I get functional again.
Thanks for all of your kind thoughts and prayers and friendships.

You must be living right UP. You are one of the lucky few that can be traveling on 2 wheels doing 75 mph, hit a deer and post about it 2 days later for all the concerned people what happened. You my friend are one tough ombré. Heal well sir!

Thanks for the update, @Uncle Phil !!
It goes without saying (thus, i will refute myself and say it anyway) that you are a treasured friend, a fount of wisdom, and irreplaceable stalwart pillar of our little virtual campfire here.
We're all glad you weren't hurt worse, or worse, and despite breaking Old Number 7 (see what I did there?), I'm nearly convinced to invest in a vest. At this point, I'm thinking you have fewer ribs that haven't been cracked or broken, than those that have.
But you're quite familiar with the downside of broken ribs by now, so the one that managed to escape the protection of the Hit was there just to remind you.
You're excused from posting pictures - since your camera is busticated, and we will be happy to pardon you from the daily update reports.
Weekly status reports will suffice.
For now...
Prayers up for complete and fast healing.

I think he has velcro holding his ribs together by now. :D

It is good that you are able to type, keeping a positive attitude is hard under the circumstances but it seems you are. You are in Cherie and my thoughts.

Good to hear from you ! Out of the hospital, and here telling us about. I'm taking that as a good sign.

UP,

I'm another who's just learning of your deer encounter.
I hope you're doing well, and continue to heal up.
I'm glad the air vest did its job to prevent more extensive injuries.

Steve

Uncle Phill, how many of those joints are natural and how many are titanium? Uncle Phill The Man of Steel! It cant just be luck.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I wish you the best on your recovery. I am going to make a point of getting my tag limit this coming deer season.(idon't eat venison)

Phillip, I’m glad to see you up and posting from the holler. I hope the healing is quick and relatively pain free.

John
