Hello all,

Today I was wondering about upgrading the speedometer gauges and such. I really like the new all digital readouts of newer bikes and sport bikes. Do they make clusters that would fit the 97 ST1100? Or am I stuck in the analog age? Also... is there a Gear readout add on I can get? I always lose track of my gear when riding in traffic.

I know we all like to personalise our bikes, and I'm no different, I suppose, but it's starting to sound like you should have got a bike with all the bells and whistles already on..............

From personal experience during a test ride of the ST1300, the digital gauges on that bike are very hard to see in the sunlight. One of the reasons why the 1300 never appealed to me. Analog is good.

Its my first bike, And I love my ST, But like you said, I wanna personalize it, Make her unique. I did the same to my last few cars, with headlights, sound systems, interior lights ect, Ive never had a bike before now, I want to explore anything and everything I can do to it.

It's a 30+ year old design... updating the dash, while possible, is certainly not practical, or even useful IMO.

Some useful farkles... TPMS, GPS, thermometer, dash camera, seat, suspension, LED lighting (especially headlights).

Farkles? And what is TPMS? And yeah iam looking for some headlights at the moment, Upgrading to... I think I read somewhere around here that the bike can do H4's with little to no worry? Just have to buy a shim for it or such?

Let's see, I've added what I think are 'useful' farkles such as...

rear tip over bars
GIVI V46 trunk w/Admore Light kit
replaced all (except those pesky marker lights!) oem lights w/LEDs (including LED flasher)
Super Brace fork brace
clear front turn signal lens/switchback LEDs
GPI from HealTech Electronics

That's all I can think of at the moment. But, these are person items that I see, as Paulcb said, useful things to add.
Good luck finding your own personal touch with your ST!

I could use some assistance finding turn signals :p Mine were the victim of learning to ride, I still have them but the plastic around them is buggered. What kind of aftermarket signals did you go with? And can you recommend any?

Many on this forum have installed Evitek F2 LED headlight bulbs and are happy with them- H4 LED - 2018 Evitek, F2 replaces G6
On the ST1100 you will need to cut off the two lower tabs and install shims to get proper bulb alignment when installing a standard automotive H4 bulb. Here is an example of the alignment shim- H4 Bulb Alignment Shims

Thanks ive been browsing the lighting forum, The ST1100, Can it ONLY do H4 / 9003? Or can it do other's as well?

Only a H4/9003 with the two bottom tabs cut off and with shims, Honda OEM bulbs or Cyclops 10.0 H4 LED headlight bulbs if you do not want to fuss with cutting off the tabs and installing shims. As an option cyclops bulbs can be ordered with the proper H6m base that is identical to the Honda light bulb base so they are a direct fit without any modifications. These are the only options that I am aware of.

I have no problem cutting off the old shims and installing new ones, Do the H4's come in any temps beyond the 6500k "cool white" I like mine more in the 8000 - 10000 range :p but having zero luck so far.

Rats, Fiiine ill stick with the basic white. Ill move to the H4's in a week or so. Danke all. What kind of bulbs can I use for my Tail lights up update to LED's?

you can change the colour of the bulbs in the instrument cluster. If you want digital get a GPS as that's more accurate, your speedo is of by 6% too slow. the odometer is accurate.
Consider seat options and riser options first to make your ride a little more comfortable. If you're looking for things to add.... a voltmeter, 4way flashers, driving lamps. Fussing with changing the rear tail light and stop light going to LED's not sure to what advantage. the rear bulbs are 58s double element standard fare. You could try and find a European headlight they use standard H$'s with no need to shim or cut off tabs, plus you'll have a funky pilot light to alter if you so choose.
You can glue the mirror housings back together with a high quality superglue and baking soda. There are clear lenses available from the Netherlands.
Look at installing a cruise control, heated grips.

Very wise advice.

I own and ride a ST 1100 and a ST 1300. I much prefer the instrument panel on the ST 1100 - it has a light to indicate when the sidestand is down, and it has another light to wake me up when the fuel tank gets low.

I have a GPS on both bikes, and over the years, I have transitioned to looking at the GPS display to find out what my speed is, rather than the speedometer. Partly, this is because I prefer a numeric (rather than dial) display of speed, but mostly, it's because the GPS displays the posted speed limit right beside my actual speed.

Best suggestion I can offer you is to "know when you are well off" - in other words, stick with the ST 1100 instrument panel just the way it is, because it's a heck of a lot better than any digital display on any other bike. Spend your money on a good quality GPS that displays both posted speed limit and your current speed (all Garmin motorcycle units do, I don't know about other brands by likely other brands do as well).

Michael
