what do you southerners wear?

I see a lot of reviews on protective clothing that are from climates less warmer and humid than the south. I currently have tpg pants and a kilimajaro jacket and was looking towards something from aerostitch. The darien line looks like it is more waterproof than the roadcrafter, but it seems like more people have the roadcrafter. These would be my needs; 2 piece, good venting, something that is not too hot in the summer(anything will be, but some are much hotter than others), waterproof gear(i do not get off the bike), and something that gives better protection than what I have. I know it sounds like alot but there it is!

I am currently using the darien lite and the darien tan pants. Use to ride year round in a 1 piece roadcrafter.

when its really really hot i wear mesh pants/jacket from olympia. sometimes just the mesh pants and roadcrafter jacket. but primarily overall during the year, its two piece aerostitch and i have never had a problem with it leaking.

I'm not as far south as you are, but my wife I and I both have AST jackets that we have worn into the mid 90's with comfort. The trick is to wear moisture wicking long sleeve shirts and soak them down with water to provide evaporative cooling. I've also dropped my windshield lower and changed the approach angle to increase the airflow during the summer months. As long as you are moving, there is comfort.

My next idea is to install a plastic collar stiffener to increase the air intake around the neck or provide a scoop off of the back of the helmet in order to force air down the back of the jacket. When I turn my helmet to the side, it forces air down the collar of the jacket and provide much more airflow and increases the comfort factor.

For pants, we wear the Tourmaster Flex - mesh base with covers, rain liners and quilted liners. Wet your jeans down on the hot days and the evaporative cooling works great.

Living in So Fla it's hot and humid in the summer. I use a combo of a vanson perferated leather gray jacket or my Olympia jacket. Wicking tee underneath and I'm set. I just got a phase change vest and IT'S THE BOMB!!! Riding through Palm Springs Ca last week and my core temp was cool. The rest of me was cooking at 111F and in general I was reasonably comfortable......... it's a dry heat don't ya know ;^). Will prolly work great in So Fla too. For pants I wear a bmw light kaki pants with armor. Hell to keep clean and the light color reflects heat as opposed to black. Maybe the Darien light in kaki might be my next purchase..

Summer would usually be Motorrad Venting Machine pants with Motorrad Airflow 3 jacket, or Revit Mistral pants with Revit Sirocco jacket.

The Mistral pants flow more air than the Venting Machine pants, but they also permit a lot more heat from the engine to get to my legs. It's kind of an "either works about as well as the other, all things considered" situation.

Another good choice for really hot summer days would be the Revit Airforce jacket. I had a Revit Air jacket that I wore everywhere, but it mysteriously "shrunk." Odd thing was, I noticed that I needed a new (longer) belt around that same time too. :D

I have a Joe Rocket perforated leather and mesh jacket, a MotoGP textile jacket with liner, a Firstgear mesh jacket, a pair of River Road textile pants and a pair of Joe Rocket Steel Jeans. Mix and match according to weather and will add Tourmaster rain jacket for added warmth.

Olympia Stealth mesh one-piece suit and a one-piece Roadcrafter. I switch based on the weather forecast, distance, length of trip, etc...

I like both of these as they fit over my work clothes and there is no chance of a jacket riding up if I ever crash. I never did zip my pants to my jacket like I should have when riding.

FYI: I've worn both today.

Thanks for all the mesh gear but I am looking for something that is also waterproof so I don't have to carry a liner. My firstgear equipment is tolerable in hot weather, good in rain, good in cold with warm gear underneath, but I think it lacks in protection.

then aerostitch roadcrafter is it. period.

Terry, what is the lining on the inside of the roadcrafter? My jacket and pants are a mesh which is what made me purchase them unlike the sticky when hot material of other gear like tourmaster. THANKS:bow1::bow1::bow1:

slippery lining but when its hot a long sleeve t-shirt makes the jacket cooler in that the t-shirt gets damp from sweat then evaporative cooling kicks in with the breeze flows up the sleeves etc.
