I'm eagerly awaiting some strobo/flashing ledlights (from ebay) to be used as extra brakelights, and I wonder if this plug can be used for the electrical connection.
Found it on the rights side under the pillion seat. It has 4 wires.
It's a 2003 ST1300, non abs.
Thanks
Stu

It's used to read diagnostic trouble codes.

Hehe, thanks!
Must find another connectionpoint then.

I go shade tree. I run all the wires into the backs of the appropriate sockets and then tie-wrap them to the factory wiring from the sockets.

If there were some narrow metal tab connectors they could be soldered onto the device wires and slid into the connectors to insure better contact.

I mounted an extra rear light assembly recently. I found the wire harness for the brake light on the rear top case, it was laying in the back, a 2 wire harness not hooked up to anything. One green, one green and yellow wire. The green and yellow is the brake light feed. I carefully cut into the protective sleeve as far back away from the plug as I could, so that I can still have freedom of movement to plug in the harness when I am running my top case, it has the spoiler and brake light setup. This made a quick easy installation for my admore light bar. I assume these bikes are like cars, and have all the stuff in the wiring harness, so if you add a factory option, it has a place to plug in.IMG_20160212_164433.jpgIMG_20160212_164441.jpg

What is this plug??

I'm bought a Bestem 929 top box. What a worthless bracket this thing came with. I made one on our UHMW router at work that is much nicer. I guess other people might be interested if I made some more of them. Anyways, the box has a tail light and I would like to wire it up. I found a plug in the back of my bike, 2003 ST1300ABS but I can't figure out what it was supposed to go to because it doesn't have 12 volts, it has more like 1.2 volts. Anyone know what this is for? Thanks, Cy

Re: What is this plug??

Seems like we're getting that question a lot this week.

That's the diagnostic connector for the ECM. Don't connect your farkles to it.

Ohh that makes perfect sense. Thanks Blrfl. I'll find somewhere else to connect my farkles. I know there are plenty of posts on how to do it

Re: What is this plug??

Just take the rear fender off and pull the wires out of the tail light from the bottom.

Re: What is this plug??

I was wondering about that plug myself, figured it had something to do with the electronics.....didn't hook into it for the 3 new lights in the rear. I ended up hooking in a couple of plug harness's that I scavenged off my parts jeep, that way, if I need to remove the box, I can just unplug it. The connectors are waterproof, always a plus. Something like these, except 3 wires, and I used both the male and female parts.
